    Out of Province Summer BMQ

I think about $13 or $15 for FoA. (I remember this summer TD was actually more then FoA, which didn't make a lot of sense to me) Anyway, if you're looking to do BMQ/SQ with the reserves this summer I'm from Hamilton and my unit (as the entire comm res does) sends their basic/sq candidates to...

The Life of a Sig Op

My experience was the same as Des's, we did PT at least 3 times a week like clockwork and more upper body PT throughout the day then my BMQ/SQ. The only thing lacking really was ruck marches.

    Weird situation with issued clothing.

lol, well Des if you saw me walking around without a jacket last weekend and you were wondering why theres your reason. I was so happy we were in civis.

    Weird situation with issued clothing.

Nearest "true" ASU is about an hour away, and almost impossible for me to make as I work 8:30-4:30 every day driving away from my unit and my ASU. Pretty much the only time I can do it is on my parade night or a weekend. Regardless I'll be putting in a memo and going to talk with my SQMS on...

    Weird situation with issued clothing.

I'm a reservist, if you're really curious on more info you can check my profile. During my 3's this past summer my crse warrant decided he wanted us all to have the IECS combat jackets for inspection. I still had the old denim one. He gave us an extended lunch to go to the base clothing stores...

Bidding may be bypassed in $12.2B military deals

Perhaps we're in a potential combat situation in harsh terrain and "potential bidders" have nothing that performs to the standards that we need. Christ, they want us to lower our standards so they can make bids and we won't be able to use their equipment in the place thats causing us to buy this...

DEET Alternative Recommended by CDC Atlanta

i believe i had a bottle that was 95% issued to me right before I left for basic. It exploded in my buttpack at some point and ate straight through the plastic ziplock bag it was in. And then you understand why they say never apply directly to skin...

    Sigs Question

Shilo truly is not that bad.. 2 months there and a time you will not easily forget. Everything said about it is true, its got its good and bad points. Whoever said that about the hills is damn right. Suddenly you're in the training area and you're doing a night combat patrol down a steep incline...

Flat Feet: training and army courses

I'm curious how other people with these foot problems deal with staying fit and staying on courses? I did my BMQ and SQ this summer with the comm res in Shilo and had no clue before that time that I had flat feet. The CF dr that did my medical exam didn't say anything, my family dr has never...

"Scrounging" to complete a mission in Iraq leads to jail

To me, this kind of story has the biggest chance of affecting morale. Here we have some industrious, smart thinking logistic RESERVISTS, who are enthusiastic and apparently do their job well. They know they have to get the supplies to the guys on the pointy end!! Not only did they get ripped...

"Scrounging" to complete a mission in Iraq leads to jail

I find this very sad that those reservists who did not do their mission because of equipment aren't being court martialled but these soldiers will be for doing what we're taught: Finding a way to complete the mission. [ Article ] Six reservists, including two veteran officers who had...

    Acne

I was taking accutane during my recruitment process and was denied on my medical until I was off it with copies of a post liver function test and a note from my dermatologist stating I was finished and no future treatments were needed. I also had it explained to me that once in the CF, CF dr's...

Sniper stops insurgents from 950 yards

Ridiculous, 868 m "isnt that much"? The effective range of a C7 isn't even that far, even with a section. I've never fired past 300 yards and only with 5.56 but that was challenging enough, especially with a rundown. Combat situation + 950 yards, 4/4 hits. Amazing shooting.

    Autobiography Thread (merged)

I didn't even change bases, instructors, or anything between courses and they still made us write 2 seperate auto-biographies. All we did was eat, drink and breath basic for 4 weeks and we had to rewrite the exact same thing for the exact same people. So, judging by that I'm assuming you'll be...

    The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

I've met the man behind Argyll_recruiting .. he convinced me that if you're not joining my unit in this area, you should definitely join the Argyll's! Met your Cambrian Patrol Team while at Borden, though. Ran the obstacle course with us, and I must say.. they kicked our asses. Looks like a...

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

Ah Wes thanks for answerring a big question I've had. We were taught during my basic to press with the thumb, so I learned all my drills doing it that way. Once I got back to my unit we did basic handling again almost immediately, and a Master Corporal made sure in no unclear terms that we were...
