    New Rucksack

That's the new Pelican MOB barrack box replacement, isn't it...?

    New Rucksack

Again, not having seen the ruck in real life, I can only go by what I have seen in pictures. From what you described above, the sleeping bag cavity in the ruck must be ginormous. The CF sleeping bags are notoriously bulky and hard to compress. Getting a good idea on how large the CTS ruck...

    New Rucksack

Tried searching - couldn't find it. How does the issued CF sleeping gear fit with the CTS Ruck and new compression sack? I'm talling inner, outer, liner and hood.

The brown Temperate Combat Boot (AKA: Mk IV Cbt Boot) - No longer CADPAT

What he was refering to, I think, was that from a quick glance, the GP (made by Boulet), the Desert (made by Boulet), the WWB and the Mk IV (CADPAT/Brown whatever colour) all look very similar. About 9" in height, combo speed/standard lace system, lace pattern that covers most of the instep, and...

The brown Temperate Combat Boot (AKA: Mk IV Cbt Boot) - No longer CADPAT

Scuffs, oil and grass stains etc etc... Anyone used tan boots in the field (and I am not talking about dry desert conditions)?

    Crossfit & the CF

Similarly, as posted before, if you want ot become good at the CF EXPRES test, follwo a program (stimulus/rest principles ahered to) that incorporates the required exercises/movements. Ie. do the shuttlerun with the proper distance (20m) and the pivot motion (start/stop/start). Gradually build...

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

Four variables that make the GP Boot (and any other boot for that matter) work or not work 1. Individual foot (shape, length, width, arch, injuries) 2. Sizing to fit the above (in this case Mondopoint - pretty exacting fit to be had with some experimentation 3. Insoles - stock ones are OK (and...

    CADPAT Rain Gear

You're talking about the much rumoured move of the NDHQ clothing stores? Anyone have any further on this, and what impact this will have (aside from extra travel requirements) on availability of kit?

    CADPAT Rain Gear

It still feels and looks like a rainsuit. How old it is, I don't know. Made by Century 21 Apparels Ltd. The seams are shot, tape is slowly peeling off and the rubber material just doesn't seem to hold water (unless it's sweat, then it's great!). I have entertained the option of getting it...

    CADPAT Rain Gear

Wonder what your OD rainsuit is made of? Mine lets moisture in, seams or no seams. Civvy Gore-Tex jacket, on the other hand, has protected me 100% in many downpours. I would trust this tech more than the neoprene junk we currently have.

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

My $0.02. The boots have a break-in period. I had to uncross the laces (straight up two speedlace loops) at the ankle to allow the thick leather to move out, and not in into my ankle. The boots have not been in the field, so the break-in period is slower, but they are softening up bit by bit...

    Crossfit & the CF

Good read and seems well balanced. Obviously the author has far greater credentials than myself in this realm, however, I do have to refer readers to Rational Strength Training: Principles and Casebook (and other IART resources http://www.exercisecertification.com/) for very strong arguments...

    Cardio or strength

I would also add that it is worth looking at the types of activities one is expected to do in a particular trade or specific course. Heavy lifting activities (eg engineers), section attacks/CQB activities and obstacle course type activities come to mind as examples of strength-centric (with...

    Cardio or strength

As posted elsewhere, your body adapts (funny thing about evolution and all that) to whatever imposed demand you give it. Do alot of cardio, your aerobic capacity will go up, lots of strength training (given a sound program incl rest), your anaerobic capacity will go up. Do specific exercises...

LF no BS answer on how to get the new Ruck.

Multiple size options to fit the end-user - great concept, poor execution. All Kifaru asks for is height, weight, and inseam. A "custom" ruck is then made with the frame bent to the average user.

    Crossfit & the CF

Not trying to cherry pick here, just combination of personal experience and scientific literature. If we simply look at all the exercises as ways to contract muscle fibres to trigger a response (to said stimulus), we are subjecting these muscles to a load for a certain amount of time (or Time...

    Crossfit & the CF

Agreed 100%. I shudder when I see people in the gym lifting weights and chatting with someone at the same time - what a waste of time (unless the point of the gym session is purely to escape the cubicle life for a while. I also shake my head at those who spend (waste) 2 hours or more doing their...

    Crossfit & the CF

Easy?! - since when is any productive workout supposed to be easy?  ;) Oh - no need for complex equipment or spotters - very true. Still, the muscle-up and thrusters, for example, are anything but easy even just from a form aspect. I have found that the CrossFit sessions are great for muscular...
