    ACSO 00182 Component Transfer

I understand this is a fairly old thread, but in the search function it appeared to be the closest to what I'm looking for answers on. I'm flirting with the idea of a CT in the near future to ACSO.  While I am fully aware that only after I put the CT in, have my file reviewed and perhaps...

    Bringing Trench Talk Home

Indeed I have.  Some individuals take it to the point of it being an art form... or tourettes, either way it's quite remarkable.

    Bringing Trench Talk Home

HA!  Very interesting.  I would agree that f*ck has become fairly common use in the military to the point that instead of uttering "ummm" when putting a thought together, variations of the f-word are used while the individual attempts to finish their phrase.

    Father's Day Quotes

This quote pretty much sums it up for me.  I always knew I would be a Dad, but if I never had kids I would have been okay with that.  Now being a Dad to a 2.5 year old girl, the tough experience with our first son, and having our second son expected to show up into this world in September, I...

    The Canadian Rangers Merged Thread

Question #1 and #2- Yes Have a read back through the rest of the posts, while the original post was created in 2004 it still provides good information on the basics of the Ranger program.  Right now within Ontario alone there are 590 Rangers divided between 23 communities.  Just like any...

    Obligatory Service in the CAF

My post was more in line with the education reimbursement than about the trade you were in.  It's pretty much that if you had gone into your second year of education and beyond where you would be on the hook financially to repay the tuition and salary, that the option for an NCM trade would be...

    Obligatory Service in the CAF

Yes, money will be owed back.  In certain circumstances however an offer can be given to the member to go into an NCM trade to repay this amount in time served vice financial repayment (i.e. two years education provided so 4 years service must be served as an NCM).

How do the families cope during a tour? Tips and pointers for first timers.

I can't speak for my wife but it is different.  The idea of being on a course (where accidents can happen) vice a tour is very different because of the potential for being in harms way and the dangers that a tour has.  Communication while on course when weekends and possibly evenings are...

    Media Bias [Merged]

In the end the way I view the media is that no matter what the source they are out to sell a product.  Whether it's through television, radio, newspapers etc they need to have people interested enough to tune in to what they're selling.  It's a business like any other, and like any other...

US Navy test-launches SSTD countermeasure anti-torpedo system

Interesting article.  I wonder if some of these advances in defence systems is to help make the carrier group slightly smaller, so the carrier has more personal defence capabilities and therefore requires fewer ships in a defence/escort role?

How is it that the legal team receives about 43% of what the settlement value is for their legal fees?  I'm sure it's been a long battle and many hours spent by the firms for their services, but that just makes me shake my head.

The Threat of Modern Piracy- A Merged Thread

While I truly do agree with your statements, the problem becomes that even though the rate of piracy would decline, the incidents that turn violent for hostages would increase due to the pirates/hostage takers/terrorists knowing they have nothing to lose.  Double edged sword type of situation...

    New courses for infantry?

mmmmm.... debatable.  I'm sceptical of changes for the sake of change as well, but these changes for the PRes were done (I think) to bring the PRes DP1 more in line with the RegF.  As well in my opinion this helps potential infanteers to stay in the mindset of the combat arms beginning right...
