Whens the next BMQ in the Toronto area?

I'm applying as DEO in 32 CBG, and the unit is telling me they expect I'll be on course all summer.  Are officer applicants a special case, or is someone just wrong?

    Political affiliation rules?

Here's the PDF that includes the QR&O relating to political activity. As far as I can tell, the prohibition on party membership applies to Regular Force personnel only.

    Legal Officer Recruiting [Merged]

I met with a PSO at CFRC Toronto a couple of weeks ago while getting my reserve application in (for a different trade).  I'm a law student and mentioned that I was interested in going RegF as a legal officer later.  He didn't mention any kind of special training plan; what he did say was that...

Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 CRASHES IN BUFFALO, NY. NO SURVIVORS

National Newswatch has an item up now mentioning that the Q400 "Has History of Landing-Gear Problems".  I'm going to go out on a limb and say that even a perfect landing gear will not work properly if the plane lands on a house. Bombardier develops these aircraft at Downsview, right next door...

    'Demilitarization' of University Campus

Election results came out today; Mr. Symons placed 9th out of 10 candidates for the position.  Guess we can all go home now.

Graduate student in Naval reserve ?

I'm a full-time law student, and joining the army reserve.  I've gotten quite a few quizzical looks about that - I didn't think it was a strange thing to do, but there's definitely been (spoken and unspoken) a reaction of "Why on earth does a lawyer want to join the army?" I wonder if this is...

    'Demilitarization' of University Campus

Another thing to note for the original statement is that reservists do, in fact, parade during the school year.  The hours are such that it needn't interfere with classes, but it's not true that all training is done in the summer.

RMC team ends 128 game losing streak

I saw the headline, and thought "Please don't let it be York, please don't let it be York..." Darn.  :P

Battlestar Galactica (Beware....Possible SPOILERS! read at your own risk)

I have mixed feelings about the ending.  Gaeta I couldn't care less about, but I've always liked Zarek - he seemed like the guy who kept his senses while Roslin went around looking for magic temples.  Plus, the fact that they brought the actor back from the original series was neat.  I was...

    Consolidated PRes forum section?

I agree with Brihard's suggestion.  When I started looking into joining the reserves, I spent a lot of time searching this site for information, and it would have helped tremendously to have a reserves subforum.  As things stand, it's often difficult to tell whether the discussion at hand...

Recruiting Posters, Slogans and Commercials [Merged]

I think the SAR ads are a good way of reminding people that there's more to the CF than Afghanistan.  And I disagree with you when you suggest that they're trying to appeal to people who aren't really cut out to be soliders; I find the tone of the ads conveys grittiness and professionalism.

Important question, any help would be appreciated.

If you join the reserves, you are only sent on missions abroad if you volunteer for them.*  So that gives you a little more control. *Barring national emergency and a call-up of the reserves, of course, though that hasn't happened since WWII.

(Not so) New CAN web page "canadianally.com"

It's bona fide, but by no means new.  It's aimed at the US defence community, which is why it might seem a little unusual compared to other federal government websites.

Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

    x will be the number of soldiers. Start with x + (4/5 x) = 27 Then, to use the same terms, (5/5 x) + (4/5 x) = 27 So (9/5 x) = 27 27/9 = 3 So 1/5 x = 3 (3)(5) = 15 Hope this helps.

Leaving the CF as a reservist

Delta, Shad4now probably got mixed up between your situation and the OP's.  I did, too.

    Running

I started the Couch-to-5k program in April.  I found that it was a good way to get started.  Sometimes the progression was too slow, other times too quick - but by the time you run into these problems, you've had enough running time to have a good sense of what you're capable of, so you can...
