I know the CF members are not allowed to belong to a political party, but what are the rules for their spouse? Can a spouse belong to a political party? Can they run for public office? Thanks for the info :)

QR&O Chapter 19 defines the limits placed on CF members.  The CF does not and can not legally restrict the activities of service spouses - other than the same limits imposed on al citizens vis a vis activities at military facilities.

There are no restrictions on spouses or other members of a CF members immediate family from belonging to a political party or running for office.  They are civilians, and as such, they are not subject to the code of service discipline.  Though I'm sure that if Mrs. Harper were a member of The RCR, it would be "bad optics" if her husband ran for Calgary Centre. ;D

Ri-iiight....like a Royal would get elected out in Canada.....er, Alberta  ;)

Here's the PDF that includes the QR&O relating to political activity.

As far as I can tell, the prohibition on party membership applies to Regular Force personnel only.
