    Non-Issue Equipment

Kevin, sprung for a RAV eh? You know every kit slut here's gonna be like Infanteer when they hear that  :P. To be honest, I'd love a Kifaru myself, but I can't justify spending $700 CDN on a ruck like that. Also, I prefer a ruck with numerous external pockets, and with a ruck the size of the EMR...

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

Kev, you should check in more often bro. I hopped over from LF once I saw some of the posts here... oy the amount of disinformation! Any chance of you coming to the tac carbine course in July? Was moved down to Camden so us guys who're going are renting a van, doing the road trip bit. Stopping...

    Non-Issue Equipment

Kevin, good post. Few questions. Where'd you get the CADPAT AR chest rig and care to share pics? How do you have your 64 pattern ruck set up, any particular mods? Any pics of this USMC CFP-90 type ruck? Also, for anybody interested, Mystery Ranch (www.mysteryranch.com) has come out with a new...

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

Kevin, good post. Was wondering when you were going to step in  :P. Please check out the thread in the equipment section regarding non-issue kit. I think your voice needs lending to that issue.

    Non-Issue Equipment

Strat0, with all due respect to one of your experience, I must disagree with your assessment and point of view. With regards to your point about non-issue kit beyond small pieces allowed, that really depends on the unit. As Infanteer stated there is a much relaxed policy towards non-issue kit in...

Aftermarket Kit Manufacturers: Where to go for good gear

Drop Zone Tactical. Check out their website and give them a call. They make a good drop leg holster which I'm sure you can get in CADPAT. Their gear is top notch and they're a Canadian company.

    Non-Issue Equipment

Black is a big no no. It's a target indicator and will get you killed. Good luck getting that monster approved for wear. In any case I wouldn't advise you use such a pack for any combat arms role. The internal frame is not the problem, that's the most comfortable type of frame. Rather, that ruck...

excoelis, I agree with you on parts and ammo commonality, which is why the SR-25 looks quite appealing. Parts commonality with current in-service weapons, and link for the C6s can be broken down and given to the DMs in a pinch.

    Non-issued kit on courses

excoelis has hit the nail on the head gentlemen. When you're doing ruck marches wear them around your ankles with the caps on the outside of your shins. Do not wear them while ruck marching. Same reason why you loosen the straps of a drop leg holster while ruck marching. Put your kneepads on if...

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

DMs are not supposed to be issued sniper rifles. Again, they are not trained to the level required to fully make use of an SWS. Rather they should be given accurized rifles, nothing more. Something along the lines of what the IDF does is fine: an M16A2 w/heavier barrel, multi-power optical sight...

    Non-issued kit on courses

If you want to strip off all the skin around your knees feel free to wear your kneepads under your combat pants.

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

A designated marksman is not a sniper. Full stop. It would be a complete waste of a sniper's ability to put him in a DM role, and a complete waste of time and money to train DMs to a sniper standard. A DM is a soldier with excellent rifle skills given a weapon that is tailored to the DM role...

After market CADPAT/MARPAT/ARMPAT Poncho Liners/Ranger Blankets, do they exist?

Wesley, none of my contacts in the USMC are aware of any MARPAT ranger blankets in the system (though I imagine they might be in the T&E process, I have no info on that). ARMPAT is too recent and uniform fielding has not even begun yet so definitely no go on that. CADPAT ranger blankets are in...

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

Wesley, I don't think you understand. A cross shoulder transition is a technique you use in a firefight whereby you're switching the weapon to the opposite shoulder while pieing or shooting around a corner to minimize the amount of your body that you are presenting to the enemy. There is no way...

I just skimmed through these threads. Some interesting thoughts on various topics here. WRT the Aussie Peelback (which I believe was created by the Aussie SAS in Borneo or Vietnam, hence the name), those who think it's a waste of time are morons. Pure and simple. When people are shooting at...

Mk III Combat Boots: Use, Maintenance & Other Stuff.

Wear cotton socks under your boots if you want to seriously screw up your feet. Cotton absorbs moisture, true.... and then you've got a nice soggy sock that will srunch up and cause hot spots and blisters. What happens to your socks when you do a river/stream crossing, hmmmm? Poly pro is a...

Mk III Combat Boots: Use, Maintenance & Other Stuff.

Hi there, I'd suggest you check out some of Danner's hiking selection. Meryl's are good as well. Check out Mountain Equipment Co-Op (www.mec.ca) for a good selection. Just make sure you pick a boot that fits the type of hiking you're doing and you'll be good to go.

Aftermarket Kit Manufacturers: Where to go for good gear

Farmboy, gear from the top notch manufacturers like Eagle Industries is not free of defects as I said before. Now, let me rephrase. I do not think Blackhawk Industries is at the bottom of the barrel. Far from it, they're fairly high up. But I would not feel comfortable trusting my life to their...

    Day Pack...

Infanteer, the only place I do order my gear from is Lightfighter Tactical. They're customer service is top notch and if something does get screwed up with your order they'll work to make it work. The owner, Brad Nelson, is a stand up guy. A problem many have is that most of their stuff is on...
