    Air Reserves?

Thanks, I'll formulate some questions and get back to you via PM (AECkapp).  I called in and left a message at 16 Wing with one of the officers.  I hoping to hear back soon. I really want to be a pilot damnit!  I know of the long and often unpredictable road and it will mean giving up my...

Curious about Australian Air Force entry requirements

Hi, I've been watching "The Real Top Guns" on the discovery channel (or OLN - can't remember).  Is it just me or the Australian pilots they are interviewing really young for where they are at in the stage of flight training.  One pilot is 22 years old and has been flying the hornet for 6+...

    Air Reserves?

Thanks for the info, As far as my wife is concerned.  She isn't thrilled about my desire to join the CF still but she has lightened up and isn't giving me grief anymore.  I ask her once in a while how she feels and normally all I get is a bit of a blank stare and a quick disapproving shake of...

    Air Reserves?

Hey folks, I just spoke with CFRC Mississauga.  CEOTP is closed (confirmed) but I still want in as Pilot.  The Sgt asked me to consider going Air Reserve Officer to build up "credit".  I was told that 400 Sqn or 16 Wing is best bet, located at CFB Borden.  I'm coming across some challenges so...

    Career choices: More than 3?

Oh god, Those recruitment video days are few and far between but they are so rewarding!  I acutely remember the punishment my body went through during GMT and pretty much every damn course (regardless of course, my squad always ended up doing hundreds of pushups each day) but it is "worth it"...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

I've used the body-for-life method for getting into shape quickly and safely.  There is an emphasis on diet AND exercise.  Never mind the malarky regarding supplements like whey.  If your diet is well-balanced you won't need supplements.  Great for building muscle and cardiovasular health.  It...

The Most unbelievable thing ever heard on a Parade...

Generals IMHO aren't as engaged in the front lines as they should be, however, they are in a totally different ballgame and have to think more strategically or politically.  Yes, coming off roto in AStan may result in a fair % of NCMs and Officers leaving but the overall the numbers have been...

The Most unbelievable thing ever heard on a Parade...

Yep, It was a very bad "joke".  I forgave him quickly enough and we got plastered together that night.  Hillier being a Newf - I bet ya he can vouch for the fact that the Newfies make the best soldiers ;)  I'm not from Newfoundland but everyone I have had the pleasure of serving who is from NF...

The Most unbelievable thing ever heard on a Parade...

Not to bash all Francophones in the CF - but in my day a Reg Force Sgt (from Quebec) working in Kingston called me a 'F$%#& Paki' (I'm brown in colour) with no prior provocation.  I can tell you the whole staff around me went silent - including one officer in the room.  I pulled him aside (being...

Who has had problems finding a career post-military?

Hi Ontrack, Perhaps you can let us in on how you were able to make a successful transition to civvie life and more importantly, what you WERE doing in the CF and how it relates to what you ARE doing now. I'm not trying to take the role of a moderator but I'm hoping to steer this conversation...

Who has had problems finding a career post-military?

Hey Sigger, I hear you - I've heard many stories like yours.  Kingston isn't a hotbed of IT activity so I'm not surprised it was difficult to find a civvie position.  As well, It's a massive mentality shift to go from the brotherhood of the CF to a "watch your back/fend for yourself" civvie...

Who has had problems finding a career post-military?

All, Yes I am one of many trying to get into the CF (as Pilot) but in my line of work I deal with a few folks who have gotten out of the CF or are in the process of.  I'd like to get a general consensus on people's personal experiences and what kind of challenges they have faced with regards to...

Wouldn't your first or second choice make you happier ;) J

For those that think they can't...My saga so far

The CF needs more people like you with the same attitude. J

    Career choices: More than 3?

My suggestion would be to find out what you really enjoy doing in the civvie world and try and match it as close as possible to a military occupation.  Having said that, one thing about the military is that they have occupations not found in the civvie world.  That's a double - edge sword though...

    SLT for summer of '08

Imagine being a linguist for the CF.  When I was in Sigs, I worked with a couple.  Mostly these linguist guys hang out with EW or Intel folks.  One MCPL I worked with in Kingston was proficient in English, French, Russian and so-so Kurdish (I believe) - the latter 3 languages were taught to him...

Canadian: Air Passenger bill of rights [Merged]

I agree Air Canada is not great but I have been on worse flights.  Back in the early 90's I had the pleasure of taking a CF Service Flight from Halifax to Toronto - OMG, the plane was so old, seats were worn & torn, rivets were literally starting to pop out of the wings and flight attendants? ...

Assauting Baby with weapon (bottle) - Man flicks baby in face

I would never hit a baby - but there have been times in confined spaces (namely airplanes) when a non-stop screaming baby nearly drove me insane enough to give that baby's parent a piece of my mind.  I like babies but when paying $100's for a flight, the last thing a stressed out traveller needs...

    SLT for summer of '08

All, What is the pass mark for SLT?  By the end of the course do they expect an officer to be fully bilingual?  I personally believe it is a waste of taxpayer dollars considering the rest of the operational world is speaking English.  I can understand francophones with limited English...

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

Wow, There are alot of opinions here and very few facts.  Guilty as charged here - however I can't think of anyone I know (and I know LOTS of people) who's lives hung in the balance over 8k.  Remember, work clothing costs, commute costs will reduce/eliminated when joining the CF - as well...
