    Competitions and Reserves question

This very idea was put to the comd 39 Bde two weeks ago. He stated it wouldn't be fair to the non-inf units! Well it was a non-inf unit from Vancouver that went to the Cambrian 4 years ago(BCR) that I helped train. I think a brigade comp would be excellent.  I guess the problem comes down to who...

    Competitions and Reserves question

There are no patrol competetitions that I know of in the CF. We have the Mountain Man (a physical endurance race) and we have shooting competitions. I think we should have a patrol comp. I have been lobbying for years to get a team to the Cambrian but it's gone now where out here on the left coast.

Why are C6 drills not standard

As far as the infantry is concerned, there is one standard for all weapons - what the pam says. The problem we have is called 'instructor fads', where an NCO has picked up or been taught something that is wrong and teaches it that way because that's the way he was taught. I am a firm believer in...

    Trained Privates and DEUs

You are entitled to DEU issue upon completion of BIQ (for whatever trade you are). Being BMQ or SQ does not qualify you for this. You must get your initial issue from your RQ, after that you can get items off of Logistik UniCorps. You will recieve a set number of points every year. The best...

Need infos about cadpat hydration pack

try Dave's Surplus in Vancouver, their website is Dave'sarmysurplus.com. They carry the Tactical Tailor line of pouches (in CADPAT!) and they have a Camelback carrier in CADPAT with MOLLE/MALICE. They will send it right out to you.

    Thinking about the Infantry Attack

Danjanou - you are probably right in wondering who that WO (now CWO)was. I credit him with the way I turned out. He had a bit of a rough time this summer with the army and it's too bad really. Right now he is doing what he loves someplace hot! Anyway I too am glad that some senior type officers...

    Thinking about the Infantry Attack

Danjanou - I wish we had officers that believed in realistic training.  Myself and a few of the other Snr NCO's in my Regiment were 'brought up' by a WO that served in Africa (RLI and South Africa), and he tried to teach a lot of these lessons to us, but he ran into constant roadblocks both by...

    Amphibious Ops

Just want to know if anyone out there has done amphib ops lately and if so what did you use for drills? We are doing amphib ops this year and while we have done all of the actual boat drills as per the patrolling pam, there is nothing in there about how to employ the boats, contact drills...

    A Tactical/Combat Shooters Course

Thanks for the info Mark. I will start pushing from the bottom. The problem that exist in my unit, which I'm sure is not uncommon, is that most of our leadership isn't forward thinking or thinks 'out of the box'. Although we do have some exceptional officers, they are only starting to move into...

    A Tactical/Combat Shooters Course

Mark C - You said that reserve Sr NCOs were loaded on to the Urban Operations Instructor Course. Do you happen to know if a provision will exist for reserve NCO's to be loaded on every one? I am from a west coast Regiment and we are the last to hear of anything, of course! If I know that...

Medak Pocket (info, documentaries, etc. - merged)

I agree with Noneck, I served in 4 pl B Coy and happen to be good friends with noneck and some of the other guys mentioned.  I haven't had a chance to read it yet but plan on buying it this week! Since we got the CIC it seems it's getting issued to everyone that's gone somewhere. At least now we...

    Pics from Op Athena

I guess I come from a rather unique unit. We've had everything from SA Pathfinders/RLI, Rangers, Foreign Legion, AUS Commandos, RM SBS, Brit Para, RM Mountain&Arctic Cadre. Not to mention the requisite number of VP guys. I guess that's one of the neat things about reserve units. We've had guys...

    Pics from Op Athena

Actually, the man you speak of lived in Victoria at the time of his death. The person I'm speaking of is from Vancouver and had fought through Afghanistan and Iraq with the RM, before going private. After realizing it was f***ed up he is now back in the RM. One of my closest friends from here...

    Pics from Op Athena

I know of a Royal Marine who originally hails from here, who got out, went back to work private security, was there three days and left! There was a company that started up in Edmonton last spring, they sent me a recruitment letter but I thought better of it. Are things pretty quiet over...

    Pics from Op Athena

Kevin, Maybe you are right, I've shot Aimpoint once. It was probably an ACOG. Did your buddies have any difficulty getting hired? Everything I've found is that you have to know someone to get a job. At least with the American companies. My buddy just deployed on his second contract but he has...

    Pics from Op Athena

The headshot was a SWAT sniper, with 16" heavy barrel, static on a rooftop. Far more fantastic shots have been made! RE:Our own guys in Afghanistan. Some of the PSD (protective services details) guys carry two uppers with them. 14.5" stepped uppers for escorts, and 16" heavy uppers for static...

    Pics from Op Athena

Cool pics, I notice you're carrying an Aimpoint and some other goodies. You don't get any grief for it? I' trying to decide what to buy, Aimpoint or EOTech.  My buddy works for Blackwater and they swear buy Aimpoint. Headshot at 350m with it. Hate to ask a dumb question, what is A&D? What is...
