The CF is still firmly stuck in the 1950's when it comes to civilian dress codes. Officer's messes are the worst, you get stared at by the 'more senior' (in age, not necessarily rank) members if you show up for a beer wearing something less then a suit and tie. Forget jeans, sneakers, t-shirts...

IMHO it depends where you are in the country. Some parts are more respectfull then others (unless you find yourself being a Calgary fan in Edmonton or vice versa...man oh man and I thought the Ottawa-Toronto and Ottawa-Buffalo rivalry was bitter...).
