    Maybe the oldest Cadet here

Bob, Another great site is www.armycadethistory.com . Loads of old photos.  You may be able to contribute a couple.  There are plenty of people out there from long ago.

All Things Red Poppy Merged Thread (sales, copyright, usage, bans/restrictions, etc.)

Most definately we can agree to disagree, and I am in no way upset with you.   Please understand that businesses are asked, on a regular basis, for donations and other support for all sorts of fundraising ventures.  I get several phone calls a week and the number is going up (thanks to...

All Things Red Poppy Merged Thread (sales, copyright, usage, bans/restrictions, etc.)

Here's the deal, I would boot out a vet, if I felt that it was required in order to appease: 1.  My business interests; and, 2.  My clientele. Since my clientele and I have many of the same interests, we have not had a problem ;)   OWDN, it's not arrogance, it's my business and my...

All Things Red Poppy Merged Thread (sales, copyright, usage, bans/restrictions, etc.)

I don't care who it is, ask permission first.  Thankfully this has (a vet) has not happened.  It's a small community and all of the local vets know me, but they always ask first.  They ask all of the businesses first and get to know the owners.  It's called respect and its a two way street.

All Things Red Poppy Merged Thread (sales, copyright, usage, bans/restrictions, etc.)

I will only weigh in on this as I am a business owner. If you want to solicit anything in my business, you had better ask first!  I throw out all sorts of people, all sorts of causes because people just set up shop, without asking.  It's a respect issue with me. That said, I am a member of the...

    Afghanistan war memorable

Luke, I work with a Cadet Corps and we have received quite a few things over the past 2 years.  We send care packages to troops and the troops send back items.  You could try it out.  We have received all sorts of badges, pogs, timmy's cups, burka, pakol, soil, etc..... Rob

    Sacrifice Medal Mega Thread

Ok, I have to ask you since you probably have the answer ;D This medal was only back dated 5 years, but the SSM (1984) with RANGER bar goes back to 1947.  NATO 1951, PEACE 1947, ALERT 1958.  What gives?  One can only be back dated 5 years, while another 40 years?

    Sacrifice Medal Mega Thread

It is retroactive, 5 years before the proposal date.  This thread began Sep 27, 2006.  The effective date for the medal in Oct 7, 2001..................5 years before this thread began and the idea was conceived.

The date bothers me, but I do agree with some sort of time limit/conditions.  The Canadian Honours system was born in 1967.  Being a Canadian award, 1967 is perhaps a more logical date.  If conditions were limited to injured soldiers being required to apply themselves (no posthumous...

Going back to visit the old cadet unit as a Reg NCM, things to say?

Most, if not all, cadet units have a TV and DVD player.  Many of the DVD players out there can read JPG format pictures.  Burn your photos onto CD and the DVD player may read them.  You may have a DVD player that can do it, many of the $40 players do it.  Just remember to name alphabetically in...

Tess, for what it's worth, I support you. Why don't you apply for it?  The worse they can say is no, then you can appeal through more public means.  I am quite sure that you are not the only veteran who has had to fight for something they deserve.

Sparkplugs, Try to get a souvenir from Trenton or the AirForce to give to the Sqn.  If you can wing it, an autographed poster from the SkyHawks, a replica Sqn banner, that sort of thing.  It could be placed in a place of honour at the Sqn (trophy case) to remember your visit.

Organizations moving away from Military Style Uniforms - Split fm Army Cadet

Actually Mich.............it seems to be on topic now ;) I was a Scout once and wore a beret, dark green shirt, red sash.  Thanks to my parents, who were Scout leaders, I also had the funky shorts and knee-high socks with garters.  I guess that I was a bit of a scout geek.  I remember playing...

Organizations moving away from Military Style Uniforms - Split fm Army Cadet

Mich, I suspect that the cost of the uniform may be a factor as well.  A simple Sparks uniform will cost parents $55 plus tax, to be worn 1-2 years.  Then add a Brownie uniform $79 plus tax, Guide uniform $60, another $60 for Pathfinders...........well the bill runs up.  Add on that...
