ATTN people to apply for ROTP Pilot

It doesn't transfer because you can have a CAT 1 from TC and still fail the aircrew medical at AUMB in Toronto.  It's more in depth and could find things not apparent beforehand.  Yes you have an idea of your fitness but that's it. As you are at the application stage, your PFE will get you few...

    Wondering about....FT RFOTP....and paid education

Your age is not a factor - I'm 36 and was picked up for pilot, with a subsidized education (not ROTP).  You would likely be on the young end - most of my aircrew selection session were late 20s to early 30s.  One guy was 40. You have to bear in mind that pilot is extremely, extremely...

CF member as a single parent-on course, deployed ect... [MERGED]

I'm not joining the dogpile here but UTP isn't something you take lightly.  It's extremely competitive (3 guys for my occupation this year), and despite the very occasional shall we say "surprising" selection, the NCMs selected are pretty high speed/low drag.  I had to apply three times before I...

    Chronic Sea Sickness

I only got physically ill on one sail, but it was over the course of almost the entire trip.  Very strange seas that gave the CPF a nasty, 280-like roll.  I couldn't keep anything down and in the end, had to get the gravol shot.  The final straw was when I tore out of the ops room to go to the...

    Chronic Sea Sickness

Coming back from Hawaii in Feb 07 on a CPF we kissed 50 degrees on more than one occasion; 40 was routine.  That bridge shot looks about the same.  The year before on the same transit, the same ship allegedly hit 60*, although I don't think the roll gauge thingy goes that high (I wasn't on...

    University Student Applying for ROTP

"Candidates selected to attend a civilian university and who elect to study in a co-operative engineering programme are restricted to the AERE, CELE, EME, and MARE occupations. In addition to the normal academic progression expected, members must complete successfully the approved...

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

It's both, but primarily a physical fitness evaluation.  Additional vision tests, lung function tests and a heart ultrasound are the biggest checks that I recall, then a doctor gives you a once over and final thumbs up or down.  That takes most of the time.  The measurement portion just takes a...

CEOTP (Continuing Ed Officer Trg Plan) 2003-2018 [Merged]

Yes, you normally receive a message for non-selection (I know, I got two before I was finally successful).  CEOTP was slashed to near zero this year, though, as you can see from this thread. See if your supervisor will call the desk at D-Mil-C 7-2 on your behalf.  I can PM you names and numbers...

    Post In The GTA?

I don't think it's a derail as the original question has been answered. Whidbey is not going to a different trade - AESOPs may start being posted to NOPF in addition to the personnel already there.  I have no doubt you'll hear all the rumours once you get to the Fleet School. As far as I know...

    Post In The GTA?

Not really.  It's a serious culture shock and quite hard work so it's a relatively unpopular posting.  That said it's 100% acoustic operating, mostly in realtime, with opportunities to learn a ton of stuff you don't get in the surface fleet so it's a great go as long as you have the right...

    Post In The GTA?

There are some organizational changes afoot, but as it stands now you will spend the first 4-5 years posted to a ship.  You do all your general shipboard quals, then your QL4 OJT at sea.  That can take a while depending how much you sail and how motivated you/your bosses are.  A year or so later...

    Post In The GTA?

As any sort of hard sea trade, you will definitely be posted to Halifax or Victoria for the first 5 or so years of your career.  In fact you will probably remain at one or the other until you are a PO2 (average about 12 years).  As a sonar op, there are more opportunities for "shore" postings...

    UTPNCM Offers 2011

Thanks a lot for the response.  I'm a more relaxed now as you obviously answered a lot of my questions.  I haven't checked my email since I went to Halifax in December, so I'm justifiably frightened to open it (possibly life-threatening explosive pressure contained).

    UTPNCM Offers 2011

What sort of follow-up messages can I expect?  I'm on parental and my boss is on a house hunting trip, so contact with my unit is slightly tenuous.  My acceptance message allegedly went out.  Can I expect anything more from D Mil C?  There has to be at least a posting message.  Maybe they need...

    UTPNCM Offers 2011

Woo-hoo, I successfully begged my way back in to the University of Victoria.  I think to celebrate I'll make an appointment at clothing stores to trade all my Navy environmental stuff for Air Force stuff.

    UTPNCM Offers 2011

I just got my pilot offer.  I actually applied CEOTP but word is that program is going away, so was offered UTP instead.  Not a bad deal.  Very, very short notice to get in to a school, however, especially because I was finishing a QL6 course in Halifax when I got word.  This was my third...

How often do you Navy fella's sail a year on average

I've been on a particularly busy West Coast reg force unit and have done about 200 days/year for the past 5 years.  Keep in mind that if you are healthy and in a short-manned trade, you will almost certainly get TD on other ships as well, which drives personal sailing days up.

The Going To Esquimalt Thread- PAT, PMQ, Etc.- Merged

I'm not Springroll, but I can answer most of that anyhow. Work Point is a mix of rowhouses and single family.  There's really quite a mix of single family styles, proper houses, prefabs, tiny little jobs - there are number of each right on the water with decent sized yards.  It's a great...

    Formal Recognition for Sea Time?

Yeah, it's called Perstempo and it's the least accurate thing I've ever seen.  It has me with a total of 180 days away over the course of my career, while the reality is that I was away 210 days last calendar year alone.  And about the same the 4 years prior to that...(I think the most was 227...
