    CADPAT Rain Gear

The fact that some people receive the TW raingear does not imply that the CTS contract has been awarded.  Your assumption is wrong and the websitre is right. The TW raingear for the Land Forces is being procured in small batches by the National Procurement side of NDHQ, with money from the...

Mk III Combat Boots: Use, Maintenance & Other Stuff.

There is no such thing as a Mark 4 boot, nor will there be.  I shall assume you are referring to the GPB.

Anybody know which variants the author is talking about?  As far as I know, there is no plan to buy different variants, just a project for Life Extension.

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Wishful thinking that only exists in imagination.  :'( Unfortunately, there are laws that regulate the way the Canadian taxpayer money is invested into capabilities (none of them are CF limitations, they are Canadian govt laws).  Long story short: -If there are more than 1 manufacturer in...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

It's so easy...   ::) Could you please name one canadian-manufactured combat boot which, in your opinion, would fit the requirements of the Land Forces?  In order to start building that list of approved footwear, I mean...

    Military still struggling in Arctic

Much better...  ;D  The article is way more realistic in that it explains that freezing is dependant upon many factors other than the drop in temperature.  Saying it's three times faster might be true only in very specific cases...

    New brown boots on trial?

Not really.  Air Force (CEMS) boots are all CSA grade 1 safety boot.  The GPB is not.  The CSA rating involves many things the Land Forces are not interested in, like (heavy) steel toes, (heavy) sole puncture protection, etc...  They are good protective boots, but not good walking or fighting...

Anybody have any experience with the eTrex Vista HCX?

The other typical map option is the paper 1:50 000 map you will receive for free from the CF.  It is quite up-to-date, it never runs out of batteries and shows great detail.  It should be plastified to show its complete potential. Seriously, the Topo map from Garmin is useful, but pale in...

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

SMMT, If, when wearing the narrowest sized GPB and the CSS, the speed lacing loopholes touch, or if your foot travels, then you need and deserve special sizing footwear.  It's not a matter of opinion. If the boots don't fit because you wear non-issued socks, then it's not the system...

    Making Combat Clothing Better

Since this is a combat clothing thread, I will assume that you are referring to fleece outergarment.  It is actually a decent argument not to wear it as the outer layer, if there is a flash/flame/fire threat in your vicinity:  Coleman stoves in artic tents comes to mind.  Reminds me of an...
