Constructing the CCG Hero class [Merged]

Fwiw... Only the cygnus/cape roger/cowley are intended to perform fisheries patrol work on the grand banks. Only the cowley can carry a helicopter, but it very seldom does. The cygnus and roger have helidecks but no hanger. The grenfel has never had an intended role, and the unofficial...

General CFRC Questions – Regular Forces

This seems important. He probably knows you better than strangers on the internet do, and may have a better idea of what you're getting into than the image a recruiter may have assembled for you. This may not be a gender issue at all, maybe he just has concerns about you as an individual...

Absolutely agreed... wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if in 2046, we're reading about the Aiviq limping her way into port, with no replacement in sight. Not much political will to plan for anything past a 4 year election cycle. Would be pretty great if they can keep some of this...

They are "newer", that's why the coast guard is in this mess ;) Don't knock the new lease boats yet... they may turn out to be a pretty good option... of course, it could turn out to be a terrible idea... The Aiviq at least (I can't find any details on the others) should have another good 23...

Is it for sale? Even if it were, it's 28 years old.... anything past 30 years and you're pretty much at the end of the reliable service life for a vessel. I realize the government is operating plenty of vessels older than 30 years right now, but most are in desperate need of replacement.

Her step-sister ship, the CCGS Cape Roger, nearly sank at the wharf 5 years ago when she rusted through under her stern tubes. It was arguably a stroke of good luck when it happened, she was scheduled to be on fisheries patrol, but ended up in the harbour after damage was found on her life boat.

CCGS Cygnus taking on water, enroute to St. John's... http://vocm.com/news/coast-guard-vessel-en-route-to-st-johns-reportedly-taking-on-water/ Rumor is the Atlantic Kingfisher has reached her, and she's still headed to St. John's under her own power.

    Name Tapes

My appologies, I had no idea your leadership was infallible and beyond question. I stand by what I said. If someone is concerned about their subordinates not having name tags, they should be following up on the order for name tags. $12 for name tags isnt a lot. Neither is $20 for deu...

Warfare in the Digital Age - Not just a deployed problem

That was part of the concept behind the FOCA component of TCCCS... fibre optic network between vehicles in the defensive... Pretty limiting to mobility though and unlike field wire, pretty expensive/harder to replace or repair if you had to abandon. I figure lack of hand in hamd with...

http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/politics/david-icebreakers-shipyard-quebec-1.4494182 Looks like Davie is going to be supplying leased icebreakers. My oppiniom, this will probably be a good thing. They've got several ice breaker out of service right now, and some of the remainder aren't...

The CCGS Hudson is 55 years old, and in poor condition... An equally important question is why is the government so bad at replacing boats. Heddle does about the same quality of work as any other marine contractor in Canada.

    Sea Service Insignia (SSI) [Merged]

Have you talked to your nearest transport Canada office and asked what they'd accept as documentation? If you have an MPRR that shows you were posted to ship for several years, that may be sufficient (No guarantees, but it couldn't hurt to ask) Individual assessors have a surprising amount of...

    1982 uniform

Doing up a shadow box for a family member, need a bit of help. I've got medals and a hat badge, going to have to turn to eBay for some of the bits. What would be period accurate bits and pieces for reserve signaller dress uniform? Collar dogs? Should titles? Command badge?

Sorry, misunderstood what you meant by "for my discharge book". Side note, if you haven't paid for a H2S alive course, the only place it's required is the oil industry, supply boats and may be tankers are the only place you'd need it. If you're planning on applying for a job at the coast...

    Sea Service Insignia (SSI) [Merged]

All you need is a letter from a current or potential employer stating you need a discharge book and they'll give you one and a CDN number. I had 0 sea days when I got one. Even just proof you're registered for a tc approved course would probably suffice as you need a CDN for the certificate.

Civilian store selling canadian millitary clothing

Has it changed recently? For a while, we were told 1 for 1 exchange, then we were told the policy changed and we could get an annual issue of next to skin items (shirts and long johns). There's probably still a dozen in the rag bin in the garage. Maybe we weren't entitled to it, but never had...
