Yes OR's headress is quite often and incorrectly referred to as Balmorals, when they are in fact TOS's. You are correct in referring to the difference in colours between the offcers pattern Balmoral and the darker Khaki OR's TOS. Noneck

ACEN- Balmorals and TOS's are two different forms of headress. Balmorals are most commonly worn by officers and TOS's by OR's.

Nobody in a highland regiment would call their headress a beret, it's commonly known as a Tam O' Shanter or TOS. They have evolved through the ages and are now a lot smaller than the style worn during WW2. Your best bet would be to contact the C Scot R and see if the RQ could loan you a hat, if...
