    Foot Care

I am copying from elsewhere (with his permission) a detailed explanation of foot care from an SF medic.  This is a good source of info.  Here you go. 1. when you clip your toenails, you want to ensure that you use a nail clipper with STRAIGHT EDGES. If you look at your standard nail...

Boot color restrictions and a sole question

Those ripple soles suck IMO.  They are not too bad if you are in Georgia where everything is sand and where the shoulders of the highways are sand (ruckmarching), but anywhere else they suck.  They also increase the lack of ankle support in a already poorly supported boot.   If you really want...

    1491, Charles C. Mann

Finally received and finished the book.  It is an excellent read and very thought provoking, however it is not written at a level that would be appropriate for high school students, unless they were IB types. The most interesting aspect of the book is that in contract to Guns, Germs and Steel...

    Anyone Know a Good Tent?

MEC is selling a new line of tents, a few of which are very light.  2/3 person tent - 1.2kg.  I think the price was around the 350.00 mark.  I will try to find the link. Can't go wrong with MEC.  Prices are cheap, customer service is excellent and delivery is free.

    How to pack a rucksack

At least you are admitting you cant pack it right and asking for help. Step one, ditch the wire hanger ruck and get a jumpable one. Step two, wear it lots.  Use it lots.

CDN Hostage James Loney Rescued by SAS in Iraq

This will definitely be a moral boost for the CF.  Expect to see lots of young keen recruits walking into recruiting offices say "I want to be in JTF." Good stuff.

    Outdoor Education Gear list

The Country Canada episode is airing today.  Only has a wee bit on my class. Very good show though as far as supporting trapping and hunting.

    Outdoor Education Gear list

I have the student workbook that came with the Brunton kit.  It is pretty good and covers compass parts, bearings and direction, topo features, declination, terms, map and compass activities and a sample map at back.  I am not going with GPS's as suggested above.  Will focus more on map and...

    Outdoor Education Gear list

Update. Got the gear and am using it every day.  Today it was -36 (-52 with wind chill) and we all spent the day outdoors.  Not an easy task to manage with teenagers who would otherwise only wear a hoodie and runners all winter! CBC was with us on Tuesday for a segment on Country Canada.  Watch...

    Blimps/airships/aerostats (merged)

Not in the article I saw. Barry Prentice, from the Asper School of Business at the U of M was pushing the idea.  I assume because of that that it would be economically viable.

    Blimps/airships/aerostats (merged)

There is talk in Manitoba of looking into airships (blimps) for transportation of goods to remote communities.  Because of the transport costs to fly in goods and the shortening of the winter road season the idea is gaining momentum.  30 million for first airship.
