Is there a Canadian equivalent to Operation Iraqi Children?

I am wondering if there is a Canadian equivelant to Operation Iraqi Children http://www.operationiraqichildren.org/ set up in Afghanistan?  I would like to get the kids from my school (I teach at a K - 12 school) contributing something to students in Afghanistan.  Just read about it on Micheal...

This thread is worthy of reviving for this: Quotes from a CBC.ca (Jan 25 2006) piece: Ovide Mercredi, ex-Assembly of First Nations national chief, welcomes the Conservative minority government. "The last time the Conservatives were in power, that is when we made advances on the inherent...

U.S. envoy dismisses Harper's Arctic plan

"Even if everyone starts work today, an effective full time presence in the High Arctic will take a long time to establish. Maybe Prime Minister Harper can discuss this with President Rice in 08..... "  a_majoor It will be with vice president Rice or with president Powell. :)

U.S. envoy dismisses Harper's Arctic plan

International shippers (Like Martin) save ~ 8,000 km's of travel by going through the NW passage vs. Panama.  Why on earth would they in any way encourage Canada to protect its own waters there when it can be a free ride.  I say let anyone through, but tax them.

Multiculturalism or Melting Pot Discussion- Merged

In my opinion you just made a case FOR multiculturalism.  You lost me on your last two points, I wont even bother to try to interpret what you were implying, but on your first two points our combined ancestors fought for freedoms and protection from the 'state' to tell us whether or not we were...

The problem is the Indian Act.  Every Aboriginal hates it, yet depends on it.  It encourages paternalism and rewards dysfunctional behaviour and corruption, yet it defines who Indian people are.  In general I find myself agreeing with a lot of what you and others are saying, yet I am...

Multiculturalism or Melting Pot Discussion- Merged

Culture is what we transmit.  Our beliefs, values, practices, customs, norms, taboos, etc.  As an example, culture is being 'transmitted' here on these boards by how we interact with each other, by how we write, the posts we value and the posts that get deleted, etc.  No one can escape culture. ...

Multiculturalism or Melting Pot Discussion- Merged

I detect some of you are fearful of multiculturalism.  Is it because you may be dethroned as the majority culture (you can roast me for making a HUGE generalization here) ???  If enough Asians immigrate to Canada to become mainstream will you then support multiculturalism or will you adopt...

Very familiar.  One could argue that the whole treaty process was an act of charity from native to settler and Canada is mispending the wealth they received in the handover!  I say give it back to us to spend or use as we see fit!  HAHA ;D

LA Police Chief's (And Former NYC Police Chief) Thoughts On Canadian Crime

Don't be too pessimistic.  It could be that the minority groups in question are the ones that will be yelling to clean up their neighbourhoods and demanding this type of policing.  They are the ones paying the price most directly.

Multiculturalism or Melting Pot Discussion- Merged

The way I see it the term "visible minority" is a descriptor used for things such as affirmative action. Multiculturalism is a practice or action.  It may involve inclusion of visible minorities, or it may not. The two are completely different.

Are you saying the answer to every challenging social problem lies in business or economics? In that vein.... Economists always argue for lowering taxes, as they claim it increases productivity, buying, growth, encourages business, improves personal health etc. right?  Then wouldn't having the...
