I disagree wholeheartedly.  Alberta remains Alberta even if it also agrees to equalization payments that protect a national standard of living.  They do not cease to be Albertans.  Quebec same thing, it does not cease to be a french speaking province and the people do not cease to be Canadians...

So it goes without saying that you would support social darwinism then.  The problem I see with your view is who gets to decide what is 'useful', 'a failure', or when things 'die'?  You?  I hope not.  Wouldn't that decision be left up to the collective society?  If so then that's exactly where...

I first heard the term through the below book but I believe harold Cardinal was the first to use it his response to the White Paper, the Red Paper.   Cairns, Alan C. Arguing for assimilation is about as logical as argueing for "non-violence" and doing away with the military.  Sure you (and the non-violence lefties) may think its a good idea, but you are forgetting the reality of Canada and our history.  The reality is that it was tried in the past with...

    Race, Ethnicity and the Election

For sure race went over the edge long ago in Canadian politics for Native people... because prior to 1960 Native people couldn't vote!  My granny still votes PC because they were in power when she was given the right to vote.

Mr. Chretien was the Minister of Indian Affairs when the Liberals introduced the "White Paper".  The White Paper was the rallying poont that got the Aboriginal political organizations of today started.  Prior to that there was not a strong political voice.

This is circulating around Niche country.  I would love to see Harper publicly distance himself from Flanagan.  IMO he is the "scary hidden agenda" personified. Notice to Aboriginal Voters: Globe and Mail Confirms Thomas Flanagan still a part of Stephen Harper's "Inner Circle" Ottawa - On...

Solution to Gay Marriage debate: Get the government out of it!

The anti-gay marriage arguements are getting weaker and weaker by the day.  This could be the crux of Stephen Harpers ability to win, yet some remain fixated on not letting go of their homophobia for the sake of allowing the conservatives to win.

Thats why I am asking questions here bro!  If I didn't want to do my homework I would simply take the book reviews at face value and ask the community education board of directors to add the book to the curriculum.  I work at a band controlled school, we are not bound by provincial...

I remember I was in Aldershot in fall of 1995, trying to get into nightclubs that had signs posted reading "No military allowed" wearing a high and tight and practicing juijitsu (freshly taught to our unit by the Gracie brothers) in the streets... but that is all a different story to be told...

Have any of you historian types read this book?  I would be interested to see what you have to say about it in reference to Canadian history and if it would be a valid addition to a high school curriculum. Friday, August 12, 2005 - Page updated at 12:00 AM...

    The Oka Crisis

Very interesting thread.  I have a good friend that was inside the perimeter at Oka and have heard some very good stories.  A movie was being made this summer about the crisis, as well there is someone at Kingston writing a thesis on the crisis that is doing some valuable research (Sputnik?). ...

    Liberals want Handgun Ban

I detect there is some kind of twisted illogical paternalistic (racist) undertones amongst those that proclaim to want to ban guns.  I notice that the talk of these crimes being the product of 'marginalization' as Paul Martin says, is increasing.  No one amongst the anti-handgun lobby is...
