Interesting developments - time for an RAF Regiment? 🍻

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

I've lived decades in each of the East and the West. Where you go wrong is thinking that anyone in the East actually thinks or cares about folks in the West. They neither gloat nor thumb their noses. They may bitch about the price of gas being high is the West's fault, but that's it. The...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

In short - yes - they still do. Not every round is a single round guided projectile. Much of it is fired as neutralizing fire with relatively standard rounds. You can't fire it if it isn't handy to the gun platform without having folks humping it through the woods. You don't need many rounds to...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

That's slow. Not with a four man crew and bagged charges. Intervals between adjusting rounds are based on range and therefore time of flight. It is fairly easy to maintain accuracy/consistency between rounds. That's a point because the 152 system this replaces used metallic casings...

From a fires targeting point of view - that's mighty fine collateral damage control. The problem with drawing a line in the sand is . . . 🍻

    Trump administration 2024-2028

The chart you are looking at, and the one @suffolkowner published above, makes it clear that the US has not "supplied" anything in the way of support to Ukraine since Trump took office. The chart is a cumulative one and shows a flat line since then. Sure the US is selling materiel to Europe...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

FYI More than 600 Ukrainian artillery soldiers finish training on new artillery system in Germany At the Bundeswehr Artillery School in Idar-Oberstein, more than 600 Ukrainian servicemen have already been trained to operate the new self-propelled artillery system RCH 155 (Remote Controlled...

    Trump administration 2024-2028

One of Hellyer's big problems was that he started off in the RCAF. He tried to become a pilot but was remustered to the artillery in 1944 during the conscription crisis. Here he was forced to retake his basic training which pissed him off. The theory goes that this unnecessary (in his mind)...

Reminds me of being in Italy decades ago when the Mafia and Baader-Meinhof were at their height. Draftees with submachine guns patrolling airports and train stations. I'd hoped we were over that. 😠

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

What's interesting too is that every once in a while I get a lot of video feeds of local small business manufacturing in India etc. There are some which show field repairs being undertaken when a heavily overloaded Jingle trucks axle or some such breaks and a couple of guys in filthy shalwar...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Thinking at scale is absolutely necessary and so is thinking long term. Personally I can't see a 60k vehicle contract. I do see a continuous contract that spells out our needs but see that spread between manufacturers. Let GM or Ford or whoever, provide their basic 550 chassis in whatever form...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Quite frankly if Roshel can build the Senator line on a Ford F550 chassis, how hard would it be to dispense with the armour and build an ISV-type light infantry model vehicle based on the stock items they have for the Senator pickup and some additional tubular roll-bars? That way everything in...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I've changed my view on this. From originally being supportive - but only if we do buy the full 88 F-35s - in order to rebuild the industry. I'm now much in favour of doing that with the full F-35 purchase and a multipurpose second fleet of cheaper jet aircraft capable of being an introductory...

Food in the Military (split from POTUS47 adm thread)

Whenever we went there we had our own field kitchens with us. The only time I ate in the mess was when I went there much, much later to do a court martial. Went to the Brit's 14th Fd Regt's field kitchen for breakfast once when they were there with 3 RCHA. I swear that the "hot plate" they had...

It's really a good application of the KISS principle - lots and lots of simple systems on simple launchers that can be widely distributed and hidden in plain sight. C&C is an issue but the Iranians are a clever and innovative people notwithstanding their criminal leadership. 🍻

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Unfortunately in this riding CPC always wins. . . . by a lot. Her predecessor had made it a strong riding since 2006 because he was quite good. That said, the riding was formed in 1997 and was Liberal until 2006 so there is hope for a real election some day where issues actually matter. 🍻
