    Disability Compensation

Have you spoken to DVA yet??  They are the ones that award for Disability Compensation.  The CFAO's and such that you linked to are there to allow you to still get paid while getting treatment for a "Service Related" injury/illness. Ie. You end up in the hospital for a few weeks because of a...

Heads up, according to my PVR (which is set to record all episodes) the next entitled Blood Loss, or something like that will on the Tele on the 14th.

    Autopsy: Emergency Room

I saw this on Discovery Health and was both disturbed and intrigued.  It's two doctors broadcasting out of Germany, one is an English ER Doc, and the other is a German Anatomist who has discovered a new way to preserve body tissue.  They go through and show how the body reacts to trauma using...

All things LASIK surgery (aircrew/other -- merged)

Agreed, this will definately affect your wait for enrollment, as you will be delayed min 3 months.  Please contact the CFRC Med Staff where your file is and speak to them if you are thinking about doing this.

    Ostomy bags and the CF.

The Short answer is NO, as already stated; The Long Answer is at the end of the day it's the RMO @ D MED POL who assigns your medical category.  Not you.  You have the answers that you asked for.  Please go and see the local CFRC and apply and see what develops.  Just be prepared for the answer.

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

I must say that when I first read the last few posts, I was wee bit upset.  Then I cooled off and read them again.  So, here's my .02 cents, tax free: I'm not sure if it's changed since I was out there last year, but usually when you failed in BC they tried their best to not even send you back...

First Aid / CPR training and certification

While I'm not an instructor, I have had the "Benefit" of having both CRC, SJA, and army's version of SJA.  Both my parents were Civie Medics and I've been back from BC for just under a year.  So I've had bit of everything.  I've also had to use my FA training quite a few times before I saw the...

BMQ going to 10 weeks in September??

Humph, My BMQ was 13 wks long, not including the x-mas break back in '06  if I remember we were the 3'rd or 4th group to get the 13 wks, the two weeks after us it went to 14 wks cause they added a week 0.

    Cap Badges

I was issued two berets at CFLRS, 1 for everyday/field, 1 for looking pretty on parade (Although only 1 badge).  When I graduated from my 3's we were issued only 1 Cap Badge.  Go Figure.  I haven't tried to get another Cap Badge yet for 2nd beret.

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

Medic_6256, It will all depend on what comes of your Prior Learning Assesment (PLAR).  That will decided what parts of the QL3 Crse you get to miss.  It will also go along with deciding what pay/rank you will get when you get in. From my experience with a few buddies of mine, you'll probably...

    hairloss pill

When you go for your medical, we'll ask if you are taking any pills, or medications.  Worse comes to worse we give you a letter to take to your doctor, our main concern is side effects, and if there is any follow up ie. Blood Work.  Otherwise just be honest with us and get the information to us...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

I agree with MedCorps, while on the clinical phase PT with the PSP was a joke, and I'm glad to here that it may be changing.  While on our Field phase though, it was a good go.  Ruck Marches, and group morning runs, Officers included.  Great stuff.  Hopefully they'll be able to get those onto...

    Winter BMQ

Ha if only that was the case.  When I did my BMQ weeks 11 and 12 in January, it was routinely -40 or worse, and we still trained, although it was a little turned down.  I'm never going to forget that.  I'm from Northern Ontario and grew up with -30 and colder and it was definitely interesting. ...

STIFF UPPER LIP BEATS GRIEF COUNSELLING - Peter Worthington

I have been watching this discussion with much interest in the past few days, and have decided to way in.  First of all though: 1.  I am a current Reg F QL3 Medic, and I deal with and see people almost everyday with Mental Illnesses, my PO1 and I have lengthy discussions on this. 2.  I worked...

    Junior Soldiers

IMHO the cadet system WAS a great idea.  It instilled, loyalty, discipline, integrity, team work etc...  However it has changed so much that those of us "Old School" (before '99) wouldn't even recognize it. It would still be possible though to ramp up the Cadet system perhaps for the Senior...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

It was exactly one year from when I left for BMQ to when I graduated from Phase 3 of my QL3, and that's with only a 4 wk wait from BMQ to QL3 (Thank God), and with the old 16 wk EC @ JIBC.  Total time not living with Domestic Niner was 14 months ( Tack on 2 months Imposed Restrictions while I...
