    LAV III FOO

The laser is not a sensor . It is used as a rangefinder . Is it necessary ? Yes . Makes the adjustment much faster than estimating it by eye . The laser rangefinders exist already , there is a manportable unit ( with tripod ) that has been in use by FOO's for about 15-20 years . The new...

    LAV III FOO

You will not be calling a Arty battery CP direct . Your call for fire will be _to_ a FOO . The FOO will then decide if your target is worth shooting at , what type of ammo to use and how many rounds to use ( Within his restrictions ) . He will then call a Arty CP ( or the R CP ) and place his...

    Aussie C 2 automatic rifle ???

Quite possibly free  :) However , there were better options out there circa 1965(?) . The FN MAG-58 or the German MG-3 ( MG-3 would have been very unlikley , too many senior NCO's/ senior officers who'd been on the receiving end of the MG-42 in WWII ) are just 2 that are still in service ...

    MLVW Replacment?

It is indeed   ;D However , the 105mm C3 is a tad unwieldy when dealing with an ambush or an air attack . Craig

    MLVW Replacment?

Agree with you there Gunnerlove . Not enough power and backward breaking system . It has a few other faults too , front heater/defroster sucks , windshield whipers are bad  and the drivers seat dosen't adjust enough ( backwards , up/down ) . It could really use a weapons mount too . Craig

    Aussie C 2 automatic rifle ???

Yep . the L2A1 , don't think the Aussie's used 30rd mags for it though . As for why they bought the M60 , I'll defer to Wes on that one . Craig

Divining the right role, capabilities, structure, and Regimental System for Canada's Army Reserves

On the button . I was in on the icestorm and the Militia did pretty well for not having much equipment or " Emergency Training " . We mostly did cleanup work , removing downed trees and helping out civilian's where we could . We left the specialised work to the specialists ( Hydro crews dealt...

Australian Heritage Weapons - Owen, Thompson (M1928 and M1928A1) and US M60 GPMG

Thats not a flash supressor , its a Cutts Compensator . Its really a muzzlebreak . The M1928's had the Cutts , the military M1's and M1A1's were attempts to make the M1928 a cheaper , easier , faster weapon to produce . Didn't work out very well . The US adopted the M3 " Grease Gun " to...

    Small Pack Issue

Gunners take note . The headlamps that brihard mentioned are the best piece of kit for fuze setting at night . No more trying to hold a projectile with one hand while fumbling with the fuze setter and drooling all over your maglight . I picked up a Ray-O-Vac model at Walmart that has 2 red...

Australian Heritage Weapons - Owen, Thompson (M1928 and M1928A1) and US M60 GPMG

Nice pics , thanks  :) If you get a chance , could you take a pic " from the shooters eye view " looking down the sights of the Owen ? I have never seen that view and am kinda curious what the sight picture is like with a top mounted mag . Craig

    STA in the Reserves

During a briefing by my CO the subject of STA came up . Apparently there is talk at the national level of Reserve units getting STA taskings . I find this hard to believe due to the cost and training issues ( Lots of both ) . Mortars I can see but STA ? Maybe I'm really behind the times...

Guided MRLS - As good as air power?

It sure would . But there is a support tail for those rockets to consider also . Gunner , point(s) noted and taken . Craig

Hey - We are hearing that Canada is/are DESTROYING over 67,000 FNC1 and FNC2s

I seem to recall that a few years ago a pile of M14's were given to Estonia and Latvia , maybe Lithuania also . IIRC the last M1's handed out were for South Vietnam but I could be wrong on that . Craig

    Best ammunition for M1 Garand

Indeed . The peasants might even begin to think that they " know better " than the Lords that they plow for . Might not want to pay their 51% taxes or other such nonsense .  :o Craig

    Best ammunition for M1 Garand

Of course it could be changed ..... but it won't . Can't have armed peasants can we ? Craig

Guided MRLS - As good as air power?

As good as airpower ? Interesting question . Better than Canada's current airpower ?, IMO , yes . Not trying to belittle the AF but they don't seem to deploy the heavy stuff to often . Better than US airpower ? Not so sure . As you mentioned smaller bombs may solve the problem of "collateral...

    Closed Cadet Corps ???

142Highlander , Thanks for the info , just what I was looking for . From your photo's I assume you did an exchange with the British Cadets , looks like they offer more interesting training than Canadian cadet corps . Thanks again , Craig
