9 Rocket is a weird one, one would note that RHA is an m270 regiment so wouldn't have been without precedent to call it 3 RCHA. Or use any other regimental name.
Yeah surprisingly ply wood "sustainables" are poor targets on bombing ranges and Range Control / Base aren't amenable to constantly refreshing single use targets, especially since the air craft have hard times picking them up. Especially when there is a target, however nominal, out there.
I suppose I'm biased from spending so much time shooting at undefined hulks as instead of bespoke built targets the actual response is simply that we dont get new ones. We will get some MLVWs out on our bombing range in Shilo now as our targets are craters and the sustainables dont show up on...
Well in my particular line of work theres value to seeing a similar target shape in a variety of istar platforms. Additionally afv targets simply last longer and the mothballed ones are destined to be scrapped anyways so its cost neutral frankly.
Both can be true at the same time. We are getting record numbers of recruits while also dealing with these issues. The numbers passing out of St Jean can still be a positive despite these issues.
The three or four TLAVs in 1 RCHA can't make it out of the parking lot but are still on the docket.
An ATMG would at least allow a TAPV a fighting chance... I guess
