First nations may have a lot of grievances against the federal and provincial governments but they are ardent supporters of confederation because every treaty right they have is with the crown, which is represented by Canada and the devolved powers within it.
Imagine the situation for first...
Be that as it may, i dont see quebec ontario or alberta letting the feds into their sphere of responsibility.
As such, unless canadians organize into 13 separate pressure groups and direct that pressure at provincial legislatures, nothing is going to happen.
And Carney, to his credit...
The greatest gift to Carney was the American election of Trump.
Carney has the relatively easy job of blaming every ill on America, and every success as a triumph in the face of American hostility against Canada or actions abroad.
How does one fix healthcare in Canada? There are 13 different systems at play.
Any approach taken by the federal government can rightly be challenged as encroachment on provincial jurisdiction.
For that reason alone I've given up thinking we can ever address the healthcare system in Canada.
The optics of trying to arrest and deport someone at a hospital a la ICE is going to be way worse than whatever the truth is, especially if there are kids involved.
Not saying that it shouldn't be addressed, of course it should, I'm just not surprised CBSA and the feds are not being heavy...
I hope the housing market resets as well, but we shall need to see.
I remember reading about a weird scenario we might find yourselves in where we have job losses and the unemployment rate goes down, simply due to there being less jobs overall due to there being less people in Canada...
The understated part is how everyone wanted lower immigration but immigration was fueling a lot of economic growth.
Which is why i think a lot of people dont seem to care about being in recession. The economy isn't growing but the population isn't either so it cushions the blow.
It is wild, although i can see why the gov would want to avoid ICE like scenes of detaining people going to get medical care.
Probably should cut them off though.
