I'm very hesitant on conservation easements....while many are okay...some are permanent injunctions on the property that may affect things down the road. Or inadvertently trigger additional rules that normally wouldn't be involved...
But a few examples just to show how widely they vary..
New...
Again I can't highlight enough the value of investigating woodlot options. One I toured years ago in Pembrooke area of s. Ontario was paying over $250,000 LESS tax due to the woodlot designation due to being a large area of forested land in the middle of cottages....municipality by default...
It's a huge issue we often start to overlap into....why aren't you pulling resources off protecting the local town/water treatment plant and protect my off grid oasis in the middle of burning forest...One of many reasons Wildland Urban Interface fires suck.
Reality is many folks don't have home...
At least locally here to get a development permit they are quite strict on the access and zoning. Too many folks built structures on goat trails that don't allow for fire engines to respond to fires and/or school busses can't access. So things like road approaches and access road...
The tactical cell tower can be great...however at least the ones I've seen used are limited to a relatively small area good for a command post. One of the real problems noticed in recent years is with the cell phones going to more specific frequencies for 4G and 5G networks the actual...
I look at that picture and have flashbacks to Tata trucks coming out of India when working overseas. And that's what the new owner bought...an engine attached to a frame and enough basics to steer it.
Everything else was built/jury rigged onsite by local fabricators. Some were...
Yes...that is my understanding as well...but a different type of "pig".
I don't know all the ins and outs....just a common topic with friends working in the oilpatch and get the occasionally end up dealing with some aspects of the industry.
Problem with splitting flows is chemical...
One of the many lessons learned over the years is the value of dual pipelines. While most are dedicated to a specific flow you have to understand most large pipelines work more like naval ships do with floatation compartments (apologies to the navy folks for not having terminology right) and...
Finally an increase in WCS Crude (vs. West Texas Intermidiate). Was down $0.39 most of the day until the recent jump mid afternoon.
Going to suck (more) to fill the truck up though
One thing that makes me consider history more though is the demographics around age of eligible population and societies self imposed limits on membership to units.
In much of the west there was a population tilt towards single young men...many from England...who in turn joined up at much...
Was looking into some parts of this as even the authorities to respond an emergency vary by province.
BC - A person may be conscripted to fight a forest fire under the BC Wildfire Act
AB - used to be part of the Forest Prairie Protection Act. I see in the 1972 version (Section 23) but not...
I am guessing your fire fighter numbers are based upon structural fire fighting organizations only. Within the wildland world many are dual hatted with other duties which may range from Conservation Officers (NWT, Manitoba) to fire specific roles (BC or some AB). Water bombers are again...
True...but tank farms aren't as large as one things. I don't know all these...but have worked near some. Oil Storage Terminals | Oil Sands Magazine
Now the trick is making sure their secure and free from sabatoge...because I'd hate to see what 2 million barrels of oil going up looks like...
Unofrutnately while it is relatively simple to build within each provinces individual boundaries the moment the pipeline crosses a provincial boundary it comes under federal jurisdication as "interprovincial". This has been a big knock on any cross boundary stuff and timing hasn't always been...
To be fair to the oil and gas industry I don't hear a ton of complaints over their consultation. The lesson the industry has learned is to go in early, before surveying if possible, and start the relationship building instead of showing up last minute and trying to rush. It's often easier...
There has been a major, and quietly done, realignment and optimization of pipeline flows as companies have consolidated fields and plants for increased efficiency. 25 years ago companies talked about developing a well...now it's a field+ at a time. As a result outfits like Pembina have also...
The other part people forget is how much of the tourism is based upon infrastructure created originally for/by the forest industry. When the FSR roads aren't being maintained...it doesn't matter what's down there when they wash out.
It's actually one part I respected from BC forestry...

Another big project and while this isn't so much a single project as a phone book of stories of projects....the news that additional federal evaluations...
100% agree. Know a few knowledge keepers and elders and always learn something more from a coffee with them.
What I do worry about...and what I've seen...is how the oral traditions are twisted around to fit modern thinking. There are certain practices elders would not touch but are now...
