St. Laurence all year round is the ice thickness and type you are looking for. That's "ice edge" in the arctic as you'll bump into stuff but hopefully never need to break anything. The actual "ice edge" is probably a marketing term for the land lubbers. There isn't a dividing line...

    Canada's tanks

Love this post. Also I understand for HEAT you need the standoff correct, because in some cases you might increase the armour pen as the shaping isn't necessarily optimized at impact. But I'm not sure if that is true or not.

There is also the option of not having an HMS, and having a fixed towed array but that seems... backwards to me. HMS isn't modular but a towed array can be. What are your thoughts on the matter?

    Replacing the Subs

Yep, the Grizzly SPG is partially German, the Lynx IFV is fully German. I think there will be a lot of surface navy cooperation and tech between Canada and German coming up. PRO class is a German design after all.

    Replacing the Subs

Mark Friday in your calendars. I'm afraid @calculus is correct but hopeful they are not. Split fleet isn't the end of the world, lots of countries do it with smaller or similar sized sub forces (Turkey, Italy, Korea). But it just doesn't seem ideal and like @Rainbow1910 stated it means both...

Apparently they are aware of this and were talking about a reinforced dome for ice operations at CANSEC. But as usual you are correct. Its probably in the least likely place to take an ice hit, as the bow will push light ice out and away from the dome ideally. Noah is reporting that they are...

This is better. The hull form has changed to be ice resistant and leaves the rounded icebreaking form from a number of CANSEC models behind. A work deck astern of the flight deck for modular payloads while a solid midships crane/boat launch section accounts for larger UXV launch and recovery...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Yes Washington loved the old Cold War "Bretton Woods" security model. You were on their side and they would guarantee free passage of goods for you and security of the oceans. If not you got fenced in. The US financially benefitted from this model to an extent but their security benefited much...

    Replacing the Subs

Not even his regular job. Excellent content, and because he is the only person doing what he does, his rolodex of (anonymous) contacts is spectacular. He needs an acronym page though. Sometimes tough to read when you don't know the difference between a LUV, LUVW, LUTV etc...

    Replacing the Subs

Reduces drag which reduces water over hull noise. Which will improve sonar performance and reduce the subs sound signature. That's just the engineering if what the reduced fi does. @Oldgateboatdriver covered the why They may have gone that way.

The Emerging CAF Deep Sense-Strike Complex

Satellite Based Moving Target Indicators, other space based assets. Naval Strike Missile can hit land targets. If we get Korean submarines then you can potentially add Hyunmoo 4-4 Ballistic missiles (500+km range). The Germans are offering torp tube launched NSM. Software is weird. Systems...

    Replacing the Subs

Hydrogen is energetically inefficient in its most "green" form. In its non-green form its a huge GHG producer. There is a reason fuel cells are called "fool cells" by electric car manufacturers. They have good uses for a varied group of applications, I'm not sure trucking is one of the...

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft (Saab Globaleye)

RCN was way ahead on this year's ago when I was in Ottawa. RCAF learned quickly to have the same information available when briefing up. CA still doesn't even know how many and what vehicles they have in inventory, let alone full fleet availability and maintenance... When you have the data...

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft (Saab Globaleye)

5000 LAV's, 500 Medium Cavalry vehicles, HIMARS, 100 SPGs, 100ish 120mm mortar vehicles, new C7 program advanced a year in timing, MINERVA program, 1000s of new LUV, the TAPV LCAV program and so on. The army is in on it. They are just... as armies are, slower. Their big difference is they...
