As teenager, seeing the midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Roxy Theatre in downtown Toronto was..... enlightening.
Sail on, Mr Meatloaf.
Please allow me to add my two cents.
Sure, Jagmeet made a huge error in judgement. He broke the rules. He knows better and should have done the right thing. This has become a tempest in a teacup, properly so. I am confident the right thing will be done in the end.
But this incident...
While I am not a psychiatrist or psychologist, is addressing and resolving the cause of your depression an option? If you can get to the point of no longer requiring supplements, the issue becomes moot.
I have sailed with padres onboard. They were all generally likeable fellows who seemed to be able to carve out a role for themselves: addressing and solving personal issues (mostly related to problems at home while the ship is deployed) was their strong suit.
For action/emergency stations, I...
Hmmm, you raise and interesting point.
Not to take this too far off topic (it is related to Navy recruiting) but you allude to the idea that in the civilian workplace, former military service is a bit embarrassing.
So instead of listing military service on a CV as a sign of pride, service...
I was part of a large cohort that started their education and careers in the Navy, then left at about age 30. This was in the mid-1990's (a time of limited opportunity, force reduction programs, etc.). Of my cohort that left, they went on to all kinds of different professions: engineering...
I would divide the total annual cost of the submarine program by the number of sea-days to come up with a cost per sea-day....
But that number would be terrifying.
I have worked with a bunch of guys who are former US Marines (or once-a-marine, always-a-marine?). They are exceptionally good workers. They have been extremely well trained to focus on their job, follow instructions, be sure they clearly understand those instructions, work hard, get along...
On board ships, my memory is that just about everything was handled on board. Will a police officer need to be posted to ships on extended deployment? How will sexual assaults be handled when the event occurs 1,000 miles from land?
Can anyone explain why or how that location was chosen? That intersection is a couple of suburban streets lined with strip malls as far as I can tell. Is there something more in that area?
Ok, there was a post some time ago that (for a number of valid reasons) dismissed the idea of nuclear powered submarines for Canada. I am not sure why you guys are still thinking that is feasible.
There is NO WAY that nuclear powered vessels will ever be acquired. They are too expensive...
It is absolutely the right thing to do. Except in some EXTREMELY RARE circumstances, everyone eligible should and must be vaccinated. It is the road out of this pandemic. It is the safe thing to do. It is the honourable thing to do. It is the kind thing to do.
Maybe there is no 'military' solution to Afghanistan. I say that when the people of Afghanistan are tired of war, fighting, conflict, destruction and poverty, then maybe there will be an opportunity to help them build the society we all want for them.
I have no interest in joining the local legion branch. However, if there was ever a committee to review the fundamental operating principles of the RCL, establish a new charter and "re-boot" the organization completely, sign me up now.
The public may not know the ins and outs of the dress regulations, so minor infractions likely go unnoticed.
But looking at the SIZE of some people waddling around in uniform, it makes them think that fitness standards are not being very well maintained.
Sorry to bang on the same drum over and over, but this is a SAFETY issue. If it's that cold, you risk frostbite to your ears. So you say "for the safety of the soldiers, we are wearing toques." Call in whoever is responsible for safety (who is that?). End of story. I don't understand how...
