Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

And honestly - war, particularly high intensity, ground based warfare, is a young man's game. When led by well trained officers & experienced NCOs & WOs, young men are far more able to sustain the tempo & rigours of warfare than those of us in our mid-thirties and beyond. That isn't to say that...

    Spartan Myth busting

Historian's Craft is a fantastic Youtube channel. Happy to see someone post his videos - most of his stuff is on Late Antiquity, a period which I think has a lot to teach us.

    Updated Army Service Dress project

I suspect that it was in reaction to the original pictures leaking out... wouldn't happen to know anyone who got a snip in? ;)

    Updated Army Service Dress project

Out of curiosity, where did you see details on the 3B dress's rank insignia? I've looked around for details on the Service Dress, and other than the DLR 5 site, there isn't much.

    Updated Army Service Dress project

Any indications of when this uniform will be delivered? I've heard a variety of rumours, mostly centring on 2025, but it'd be nice to have a ballpark to when we will be switching.

    The Great Boot Review

Alt-berg Defenders - Full leather brown, Cambrelle lined (I'd say 3.5 seasons). They are very high quality and were stocked at the CANEX last I checked (compliant with BOOTFORGEN). Best all around boot I've had. https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/combat-boots11/military-ops1

Two Canadian Armed Forces members face drug/weapon charges

How could one forget the great Wainwright PAT Platoon meth lab bust of 2010?

Canada doesn’t matter to the rest of the world - and it’s our own fault

What happens now is that we try to encourage everyone to be a lifer, rather than encourage as many Canadians to join the Armed Forces for an initial engagement as possible. Any service is valuable to the nation. Further - it is natural for the rank pyramid to thin out as time goes on.

Canada doesn’t matter to the rest of the world - and it’s our own fault

I don't think this is a necessary equivalency. Gen Maisonneuve is correct about his assessment, obviously, but we don't need to utterly gut our services to afford a much better military and have a comprehensive foreign policy. This is all within reach of the government, if it chose to do it...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

CJOC does it in 1A, with ideally a Director General issuing the honours and awards in a public (ish) place.

    Updated Army Service Dress project

I, like many others before me, have had the privilege of wearing high collared scarlets with a Wolseley helmet and found that for parades in hot months, it did a great deal to make the heat bearable. The helmet in particular shielded nearly the entirety of my face from the sun, whilst allowing...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

For those asking why, and I believe it has been already said here, a new DEU is being procured because the awful 65 %wool / 35% polyester 1970s leisure suit blend that we used to use is no longer manufactured by industry; thus, we have many troops who cannot replace old DEU items or get DEUs at...

    RCAF Ball Cap

I honestly thought we were going to get skewered much harder than we did, but there's no denying that the 'economic increase' and CFHD are policies made by a combination of bureaucrats and politicians who are apathetic, or perhaps mildly hostile to us and our institution but wanted general and...

No more rifles on drill/grad parade?

We take neither drill and ceremony nor combat forces seriously. Both have been on the decline for quite some time. Fortunately, for things such as Quarter Guards, the drill is quite simple. If you teach recruits to do basic rifle drill (present, shoulder etc...) they can do a Quarter Guard...

    RCAF Ball Cap

I certainly don't think that everyone needs to hit gold. I would simply advocate for chains of command to prioritise fitness more than they currently are. In an office environment, I have discovered that PT is often an afterthought, instead of a core part of the day that everyone does. I have...

No more rifles on drill/grad parade?

If you think that being told 'don't get old because you might not like being attacked by the youth' was an attack on you, I'm not sure what to say. I think that you miscalculated. We have failed to recruit and retain because we have alienated the core demographic of the military - driving...
