Agreed. There is one point that I'm tracking as a step forward from Aimpoint 1 from last April which is the UAS Regt in 1 CAB.
Aimpoint is very vague on this and calls it a "Deep Target Acquisition unit" which is simply "conjectural" and joint with the air force. It notionally has two SUAS...
It's my arty background. We lived on double checks and backup systems. It was taught as part of our training and we exercised system failures just to stay competent. There's a number of anecdotal situations in Afghanistan where something or other electronic would fail or be U/S waiting parts or...
I like where all this is going but at the same time the parallel maturing of AI makes me wonder how secure all of this will remain. Lord, I'm not advocating a return to paper maps, grease pencils and field phones, but . . .
🍻
There are a few old AD folks here, and a couple of us "almost an AD" guys.
Canada went Tango Uniform on ground based air defence almost 15 years ago. The issue is that all of us older folks dealt with an AD system designed for fast movers and helicopters. It's a whole new world out there with...
One would think that there is concurrent activity on those two files with frequent collaboration. It strikes me that both plans need input from each other. There are a few foundational building blocks that 2 Div needs that should be worked on in near time.
🍻
There's no intent of a 2 CAB as it stands.
Under "AimPoint" the ARes arty regiments remain in 2 Div u/c their CBGs but are all very heavily tasked to augment the 1 CAB and 6 CCSB artillery units. Effectively they have operational tasks in support of 1 CAB/6 CCSB.
I think it will take a while...
. . . and a service battalion and a field ambulance (kind of) and a signals regiment (which I tend to write off as a brigade HQ signals squadron) and the arty regiments (although they really are expected to work for 1 CAB). So yeah - they are still brigade groups seeing as 2 Div has virtually no...
I was being tongue-in-cheek, but actually its 2:10 Wpg to Edm direct. A bit less than Winnipeg to Ottawa 2:30 or Toronto 2:25. Winnipeg to Montreal is 2:45. No direct flights from Quebec City AFAIK. And 2:15 from Shilo to Winnipeg by road.
Winnipeg is about as close to the centre of the...
There were some additional name changes and the cavalry brigades were retitles armoured brigades as they had been during the war. In general, WW2 infantry brigades had three infantry battalions and armoured brigades three tank and one motorized infantry battalion. The tanks at this time would...
There were various numbering schemes for Militia brigades pre 1942 but in that year they were renumbered from 31st (Reserve) Brigade Group to 42nd (Reserve) Brigade Groups inclusive. These were allocated to Militia Districts as follows:
1 MD - London - 31 Bde
2 MD - Toronto - 32 Bde
3 MD -...
It doesn't need a legislative change. An order in council should do. NDA s15(2) & (4)
Besides - maybe they'll pull a few thousand PYs out of Ottawa. :giggle:

Two things.
Saxony-Anhalt is a former East German state and has a strong history of far right leanings. They still need to find a coalition partner. Greens? Social Democrats? That said, the doubling of vote strength is nothing to sneeze at.
It's only a state election and not a national one...
I have no idea if this truly is the design for a new uniform but I actually went to Truth Social to see if he posted this - yes he did - jackboots and all. It was one of the milder things that he posted/reposted.
I feel dirty.
Actually, no. I had never heard of the program and I generally dislike Podcasts (I can read and assimilate faster than most people can speak). Now that I know about it I might just give it a listen.
I have a general interest in Roman history and Roman-based historical fiction - I've read and...
Continuing down my foray into the entertainment line, there are dozens of books on Marius and Sulla. It was Marius who "reformed" the army by eliminating the land owning requirements for military service and instituted the recruiting of the capite censi. Sulla subsequently used the transformed...
This forum has an informative aspect and an entertainment one. Every once in a while one has to dip ones toes into the entertainment side.
:giggle:
There are other laws that deal with "conscripted" service. See, for example, the Federal Emergencies Act and look at ss 8(1)(d); 19(1)(d)...
I'm glad we agree, albeit we disagree a bit on what a "fyrd" is. It never was the general population - women, and slaves weren't part of it (although in some cultures they did participate.)
There were several types of Anglo-Saxon fyrds and the the rules that applied from time to time changed...
If there's one thing that I've learned its that generalizations don't work. When it comes to the effectiveness of armies made up of professionals or militias, time and place matters. The Roman army before the Marian reforms was a militia made up of farmers. With the exception of the battle of...
