High Speed Train Coming?-split from boosting Canada’s military spending"

I'm in! That was the first year of the "curvy" Rams that stuck around until the latest model.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I the CAF started putting military expectations on CIC officers, that number would likely drop to 750 that were both willing and able to meet the expectations. We'd likely do better just recruiting off the street from civilian supervisors and managers that like guns...

CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

Two key points: 1. The rest of the countries aren't as dependant on a good reasonable deal with America. They have lots of other irons in the fire. 2. Trump has ignored those "deals" on a whim repeatedly. Giving him a symbolic "win" now just feeds his ego, and emboldens him to keep pushing...

All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

100% Anything to keep us off-balance and divided. Nobody outside of Canada benefits from a united, and resilient Canada. Even our allies benefit from our internal conflicts, with America being the biggest winner.

    LCBO theft

I was in a MLCC store a few days back, and had forgotten about the ID thing. It was a few seconds of digging out and ID, then a pleasant shopping experience. I think Ontario going that route would be a reasonable choice. Because it went so well the first time... I look forward to creating...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in Canada "divine right of kings" died before Canada was discovered by Europe. Magna Carta killed it in England, and by extension the UK. Come back with a better argument.

I agree, and I don't think the rest of the world is prepared for it. On the bright side, I already have a good enough phone, PC, and appliances to ride out the crazy.

    2026 Wildfire Season

I was in Kakabeka Falls park near Thunder Bay, and all the NW Ont fires yesterday. Apparently, before my arrival there was an incident with a fire in the provincial park. A park with a fire ban, and active monitoring from park wardens... People are dumb. I'm hoping the rest of my camping...

Trudeau was PM, controlling the executive and legislative functions of government. We all know you hate PP, but let's try to keep things in the correct context when making comparisons.

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Just read that and found it interesting myself. It's almost as if police have known this since around Columbine, but in Canada we keep getting told legal firearms owners, like the gentleman in the story, are the true problem. I'm not saying I'd daily CCW, but given the option, I'd take the...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

If it's that general why bother? Nobody who actually cares about their religion/spirituality will be impressed by a weird "universe" prayer... It's an appeasement that appeases nobody, but those who never needed to be appeased. Imagine dealing with pay issues by having someone come out and...

My greatest fear is Canada learning the wrong lesson, and going all-in on the "cheap" low-tech end, and losing the other half of the fight. Iran is still flinging around a few high-end missiles, so we cant afford to not have/lose the ability to counter those as well.

My only major issue with this idea is that it could easily lead to us becoming too specialized in a role that gets countered by other technologies. We went away from V1(better Shaeds) type missiles after 1945 because they could be intercepted by Spitires. There is zero reason to believe that...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

It's a fair point that their culture has been suppressed by official policy for a long time, and I'm glad that it's no longer the case. My only issue is the double standard being applied. I'd rather see all religion/spiritualism dropped from parades/events, and for parades like Remembrance Day...

The problem is, no nation/society will tolerate the "transit fee" impose by the crazies. Make no mistake, the crazies will be the ones imposing the "fees". Singapore isn't about to impose a fee on the SoM, but some crazy religious sect in Indonesia might... Particularly if they realize that the...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

No, because it has been made clear that complaints are seen as racist, or at the very least paint you are a racist leaning person... Take for example the Eagle Staff. It is carried and talked about at CAF events, yet there is no equivalent Christian, Islamic, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, or other...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

Yes... I have been at multiple events in my career where a smudging or other indigenous prayer ritual was conducted without my consent, and without my ability to opt-out. In exactly the same way people have complained about being forced to endure Christian religious prayer and ceremony.
