Various media outlets are reporting that early this morning a truck plowed into a New Orleans crowd of people celebrating the New Year. At least 10 dead and 30 or more injured. Apparently, the driver was killed in a shootout with police. No news yet on motivation of the driver...

Unidentified sources have told the CBC that several Liberal cabinet ministers have announced they are not seeking re-election or are being moved to different portfolios. One of those ministers who is being re-assigned is apparently Defence Minister Anand.

Interesting video of an Ukrainian improvised 40mm mortar round. In essence the Ukrainians have taken a 60mm mortar and using a metal sleeve into which a AGS-17 round is inserted and the sleeve and and round are dropped into the mortar and the round is launched. Range approx. 2 km s.
