    Ottawa M&G - 2009

I'm in Ottawa all week (March 8 - 14th) if any of you locals are up for a pint.  I'll but the first round.

Secret document reveal sweeping new rules for natives - G & M

I read all of the documents linked in the article and they are far from evidence of a "hidden agenda" or secret plot.  In fact they argue for increased funding and supports to increase governance capacity on reserve. No doubt the G and M article was fed to them by the Assembly of First Nations...

    President Obama to Visit Canada

If Obama ran in Canada, which party would he run with?  Which would accept him based on his policies?

Online ads using Canadian soldier picture, fake story to sell 'vehicles'

Is there any legislation in Canada that would be similar to the Stolen Valor Act in the U.S. which makes impersonating a veteran, or falsifying awards a federal crime?

    Feedback on commentary

I wrote up a commentary and I'd appreciate your feedback.  No holds barred. ;D As the 2008 election draws near, it is worth questioning what it is that First Nations people need from the process.  Beyond what we want from an election, it is also worth exploring the role First Nations have...

    It's not Easy Being Green

The Greens really have to sort out their affiliations and policies.  If they want any legitimacy and votes from the likes of me they have to be realistic in their policies.  Their "anti-war" approach is another example.

    editorial- Native School Funding

The funds are far from enough to build schools. In spite of all the rhetoric claiming First Nations people in Canada are sucking up huge amounts of money from the public coffers - after all is said and done the amount that actually reaches the communities equals roughly $16,000 per person. ...

    editorial- Native School Funding

Very good background info, but I emphatically disagree with you on this point. First Nations in Canada are not sovereign in the sense that no laws (prov., federal or international) apply to us.  We are Canadian, plain and simple.  We hold a unique role, but it is not a lawless role (or it...

    MEC board election

No, historically it has been a mix of urban peaceniks running.

    MEC board election

Any ex-military running for the MEC board this year?  Or sympathetic to military customers? This is a good time to sway the direction of MEC.

    editorial- Native School Funding

It appeared in Sundays Winnipeg Free Press.  Thank you all for the feedback.  I am in agreement with you all.  For the past three weeks the school in Easterville Manitoba has been closed because the teachers have not been paid since before Christmas.  Meanwhile the chief has been travelling...

    editorial- Native School Funding

Accountability acts are one of the major solutions in my opinion.  Currently there is no recourse if a band chief and council decides to shut down the school for whatever reason, or fire teachers for no reason.

    editorial- Native School Funding

"Equity in education is a right that is taken for granted across Canada, yet it is a fallacy in First Nations communities - $6,400 does not equal $9,450.   That is 3,000 dollars worth of inequality for every kindergarten through grade 12 student in the system every year" Hows that?

    editorial- Native School Funding

I am writing this up for submission.  Feedback is appreciated.  Two Federal Approaches to Education Of all the Canadian school age children attending classes this winter there remains a select few that fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government.  Education in Canada is a...

Canada's First Nations - CF help, protests, solutions, etc. (merged)

That is a good article.  People on my side of the 'fence' (the Native side) need to be more open to views that may be contrary to theirs.  Argueing that anyone that believes in dismantling the reserve system is racist serves no one any benefit. I disagree with Jonathan Kay however.  I feel the...

    The School Funding Thread- Merged

In the end nothing I said was false information and there is a dire problem that has to be faced.  Those around me here tell me I am over reacting and that the story was good.  I just do not like the fact that they focused in on one specific negative area.

    The School Funding Thread- Merged

The problem for me lies in telling people who is responsible, we (as First Nations people) have to take responsibility ourselves in order to get anywhere.  INAC is responsible but so are we ... and when I say this publicly I lose support in my own community.  If you want support from the...

    The School Funding Thread- Merged

Well the sh*t is hitting the fan on this issue here.  I talked to the CBC about an education act initiative we are beginning in our community and they took something I said way out of context.  It makes me look really bad.  My comment was that because of mold problems, overcrowding, underpaid...
