Education Requirements to become a MP or MPO

I have a degree in History, with an English minor... but I went the ROTP route, pre-MPAC.

Families of Fallen Soldiers Visit Afghanistan

I can't find the link for some reason, but I was reading an article last night that said that this was the 8th time that families of our fallen soldiers have visited KAF. JTQ

    MP Of The Year

It's real, as the posters above mentioned; a branch thing we've been doing for the last three years or so. A great initiative allowing us to recognize troops who give that little extra bit within units and detachments. As I understand it, all folks that were nominated will be receiving a letter...

    MPAC October 19th/ 2009

While they may run the courses simultaneously, and some of the assessors may go between - the processes are slightly different, and unless things have changed since I was last an assessor (06?), the MPAC folks will stay together through the assessment, as will the MPOAC folks. Good luck to all...

Spouse of deployed member, lives off base, doesn't drive & needs ride to use VLT?

Anny, I'm currently deployed, and am able to speak with my spouse and see my five month old fairly regularly via webcam. I've used the ones at KAF and KPRT that have been provided by a civilian contractor for this specific purpose. I don't know where your husband is (nor should you tell me) but...

    New Operational Service Medal Announced

My understanding is that the plan is to go the way of the Brits... instead of a new bar for the GCS with every separate go overseas, we'll be wearing a new GCS on our chests, with a different coloured ribbon. The Brits call it their Operational Service Medal - they have three at the point...

    Powers of arrest conflict??

They are, if they go through the same QL3. But the lion's share don't. So they don't get the full police trg package, and are not badged, etc. There are exceptions to this rule - for example, there are members of civvie police forces with extensive police experience on that side that are also...

    Close Protection Training

This is true... but as I understand it, the normal rank level for a team leader is Sgt. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will speak up (I'm definitely no SME). Obviously, when pers shortages occur, as in any trade and especially in operations, we are sometimes required to fill slots with lower...

    Corrections to MP

I had a couple of buddies on my MPO course who were ex-corrections. They went the officer route after getting degrees. I've also interviewed a candidate during an MPAC who was in Corrections, so.... yes, there is precedent. I don't know/remember if the corrections guy on the MPAC received an...

    Military Police Assessment Centre (MPAC)

Looks like the last week of this month, and into the first week of next. (-ish... I don't have exact dates)

    Close Protection Training

I can speak from experience having had the privilege of being the DCO and A/CO of MPs in Afghanistan (including CP Operatives), and having some very good buddies (peers) who are CP-qualified Officers who led CP teams in Afghanistan (two of whom were awarded US MSMs for their leadership) that...

    Polygraph

This would be the first I've heard of it... not that we don't get cubicle-itis at MPHQ...  :brickwall: Something to ask about in the morning, I guess.

    Australian Army Combat Badge

My understanding is that they've chopped it to two... RUMINT, but reliable considering my source. I'll have to track down the ongoing thread.

Whats a good buy and whats a waste?

If I recall correctly, the biggest size the posties would ship was about the same size as a barrack box. The USPS on KAF may ship bigger, and if all else fails, go to Fed-Ex or DHL. I had something DHL'd in from Calgary to KAF - took less than a week.

What do you mean by 'getting back to green'?

Governor General Announces New Valour Decorations and Meritorious Service Awards

I sat one of the boards for these H&A as the MP A/CO while my CO was on HLTA. Just listening to LCol L reading some of the draft citations as we were going through the boards gave me goosebumps... I can't wait to read the final product. BZ to the troops!  :salute:

    Close Protection Training

No, I don't do the job. But I have had enough exposure to it, and the PM had enough access to SME (The CP Major and the Captains who were in theatre) who spearheaded the effort to ensure that you were able to do your jobs over there, and recommended that we go this way. I never heard a complaint...

    I hate Parade boots

I would get the same speech. My boss actually thought that parade books were not permitted to be worn by officers. Until I showed him the dress regs, where it doesn't specifically forbid officers from wearing them. Then I got the tradition speech. I came around quickly though, as I do find the...
