    IRB Fiasco with VAC

One option is to apply for remission of the overpayment. https://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/about-vac/legislation-policies/policies/document/1600 Personally, I have no experience in this, but I have done some research into remission of overpayments. I have found no examples of VAC-related...

The old Spec Pay when OT'd question

I'll give you my experience so far. Pretty similar circumstances. I OT'd from the Navy as a PO2 from a spec 1 trade. Spent a little under two years at Cpl IPC 4 before becoming QL5 qualified. By the time my spec pay kicked in, I was being paid at Cpl Spec 1 IPC 2 (by then having 2 years in the...

    Close in Weapons System (CIWS)

Highly doubt it would even be considered under fire. At that point, there are other things to worry about than upload that beast. I found the upload/download process very resource intensive (personnel, HERO & HERP precautions, etc). It always boggled my mind that a modification wasn't made to...

    Travel Claim with Driving

I've never had a problem driving more than 500km/day.  Heck, I don't think I've done less than 600/day during my moves because we would try to plan it out so that we could have a day or two of visiting relatives along the way. I'm pretty sure they just use that figure to calculate how many days...

Investigation into RN warship's accidental launch of torpedo at nuke sub wharf

We've done it before too... http://www.forces.gc.ca/en/news/article.page?doc=hmcs-iroquois-accidental-torpedo-discharge/hnocfjjz Not as bad as doing it in harbour, but still a huge mistake. I seem to remember hearing about another incident like this, but can't find any references about it.

UTPNCM 2 College diplomas no university credits

I haven't gone through the UTPNCM program, but I did just finish up my BA through the University of Manitoba. They do offer university credits for both military courses (as an example, PLQ gives you 3 credits in ARTS1160) and transfer credits from colleges (they accepted my credits from both...

    Speed limit for snow plows

I just took a quick glance at the Act and think I found the answer to your question. Unnecessary slow driving prohibited 132.  (1)  No motor vehicle shall be driven on a highway at such a slow rate of speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic thereon except when...

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

Very true. I definitely don't paint all PSP instructors with the same brush. I have seen my share of poor ones as well. As for the different standards, this is more of an organizational issue than personnel. At a few bases, the instructors will actually talk about standards, and hold training...

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

To play devil's advocate for a moment (and I will admit my bias since my wife is PSP), the benefit that PSP bring is that they are outside the CoC. Going to unit-level testers brings about the possibility of rank-, peer- and "buddy"-pressure applied to the testers. I personally hear stories of...

    Step Test

Check out the EXPRES manual 2012, starting at page 27 for mCAFT (step test). https://public.cfpsa.com/en/AboutUs/PSP/DFIT/Fitness/Documents/CF%20Expres%20Manual_Eng_July_FINAL_2012.pdf

    Going Home

If you know a couple of buddies going the same way, look into renting a car and splitting the cost. I've done this once or twice and gives you the flexibility of being on your own schedule. Montreal to London isn't too bad to drive. Of course with gas these days, well... might be cheaper to fly.

CAF Specialist Pay [Spec Pay]- All Trades [MERGED]

Here's an even more up to date list, effective 1 April 2010. http://www.cmp-cpm.forces.gc.ca/dgcb-dgras/pub/cbi-dra/204-eng.asp Look for "TABLE A TO CBI 204.30 - ALLOCATION OF MOSID TO SPECIALIST TRADE GROUPS" about halfway down the page.

NCM Subsidized Education Plan (NCM SEP)

Unless they've changed since I was there (almost 3 years now...), the main accommodations for the stokers and NE Techs were about a 5-10 minute drive from the MI campus, roughly half way between MI and the base. For those on IR (married), they were living in the singles quarters on base...

Sports while in the Canadian Forces...

I think I remember a CANFORGEN released earlier this year regarding extreme sports. I can't quite remember what it outlined, but I believe it named a few sports that you would not be covered if injured. I don't have DIN access at the moment... maybe someone could look it up? I think it was...

    2009 Reg-Res Pay Rates - Published

After a bit of research, I found that the max EI contribution limit is 731.79 this year. I maxed that out on the Aug pay. So, I guess cause you're making more, you maxed out earlier and saw a bigger increase this month.

    2009 Reg-Res Pay Rates - Published

My Aug pay was more than July too. Not by much though. I just checked my pay statements and the increase hasn't gone through yet. But my EI deductions dropped 20 bucks.

    Naden Dental

If you're heading up Admirals Rd. from Naden, turn right on Colville Rd. (immediately after the railroad tracks). You'll go by some soccer pitches and the hospital is the first complex of buildings on the left. The dental clinic is in the hospital, unless things have changed since I've last been...
