Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The .50 is man portable. Just, not very comfortably.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Not a good decision. As I understand, though, one that Comd MILPERSCOM openly advocated for in a very recent Town Hall in Petawawa. 'We don't want more people living in PMQs, but buying houses on the market'. So now we have JNCOs (and frankly many SNCOs, WOs and Jr Officers) who will not earn...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I wonder if we could experiment with a VR headset? I'm generally reticent to rely on electronics like that though, which will absolutely be N/S within a few days of being in theatre, but an interesting thought experiment never the less.

Canadian Dismounted Infantry Capability Enhancement (DICE) programme

I'd be interested to see what the yoke looks like for the webbing belt. The reality of actual full spectrum warfare indicates that large webbing belts with 24hrs of kit are by far the most effective solution for load carriage, in terms of how much a soldier can carry, their ability to get low in...

    CANSEC 2025

Who is this chap? I've read a bunch of his posts, he seems pretty dialed in and well briefed. Is he former military or just an interested civvie?

    CANSEC 2025

I don't pretend to be an expert on this, and am unwilling to weigh in as I haven't thought much about these issues. But I will say that tactical mobility and survivability both have to be at the forefront of our decisions if we desire success in war with an over-peer adversary, of which almost...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I have seen highly skilled SNCOs with excellent tradecraft cease progression and then be posted anyways. The philosophy from the career side (presumably CMP itself) was that ceasing progression has no impact whatsoever on postings. So these individuals are then cycled out of units where they are...

    CANSEC 2025

You may not have a choice. The mud puddle very well might be the only place that is suitable for an area somewhat protected from overhead observation. Additionally, you are likely not 100km away. You are likely closer - in the danger zone for enemy observation from air ISR, or attack by...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I agree on the tech stream, but would counter that this could be started at a more junior level. Re-introduce the rank of Lance Cpl, which becomes an automatic promotion at 4 years but is expected to conduct junior leadership responsibilities. Cpl then becomes a rank that requires Sect Comd...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

To be honest, I am unsure of what point Mr Patterson is trying to drive forward. Is it that service members ought to be content with their current pay structure? Is it that private sector employees are worse off? I'm afraid that neither of those is particularly likely to incentivise...

    Naval High Collar White Tunic

I bought a pair of Black Johnston & Murphy Oxfords (Melton I believe) at a Naval Exchange in the US nearly a decade ago. They are far, far more comfortable than the issued rubbish, polish up very easily and blend. They also work well with black suits on civvie side. There is better out there.

Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

My unit mandated SAT training, as I was instructed. Further, things have changed (ostensibly since Covid). Getting slotted in at Connaught is difficult, and unless you don't have a day job and can hover with a finger over the 'book' button on their antiquated America On-Line esque 1990s website...

Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

That's essentially what he was saying - Army combat support and service support pers need to be able to not only barely defend themselves, but be entirely responsible for their own security, up to and including stand alone convoys in full threat environments, setting up and manning defensive...

    King Charles III Coronation Medal

There should absolutely be a DOMOPS medal, with bars for certain numbers of day. It should be recognised for what it is - an extraordinary operation, not one that the military is designed to do. It would also incentivise the Army Reservists. Men will do a lot for a bit of coloured ribbon.

Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

What are the new PWTs? I'm not in the field force right now and the last time I did a PWT 3 (a while ago) it was a traditional run down.
