Toronto Police constable Marc Pinizzotto of the Emergency Task Force was killed in a raid this morning, with one suspect hospitalized in custody and another suspect at large.

OPP and Ambassador Hoekstra have both linked this event to the shooting at the U.S. Consulate, which the U.S. have suggested in a federal indictment of someone down there is linked to Iran.

I’ll be steering well clear of speculating on this, but open source articles are fair game. If in fact that link is legit… Holy crap.

This one will be all hands on deck for any organization involved.

I’ll reserve judgment- for now

Speculation:

According to organizations like JusticeInConflict there's reports of hundreds or Iranian regime figures living in Canada.

In 2021 or 2022 former Tehran police chief and a general in the IRGC was photographed working out at a gym in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

In 2025 CBSA found at least 20 senior Iranian Regime officials living in Canada.

Only a very small number of these people have been removed.

Toronto might see it's very own Iranian Black September if we're unlucky enough.

The "hundreds" I've read about include both hard-core directly-linked regime figures, as well as supporters, "wanna be's" and "hangers on."

If I had to bet a speculative loonie, the chances of a truly high-end connected IRN official doing this is slim (although all those f@#$%^&*kers should be gone). Someone at the far end of the involvement spectrum wanting to earn their colours, so to speak? Maaaaaaaaaybe more likely. We'll see what we learn about

It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds, for sure.

I don't think the average Iranian regimenik wants to stand out with violence. They are here to actually hide their wealth in the West. The last thing they want to do is rock the boat. That doesn't exclude somebody who is just crazy. But I do think an organized campaign is unlikely. Also, the wider Iranian diaspora hate these people and watch them like hawks. You can bet CSIS has their number.

Neither of the 2 names so far released look to be typical Iranian names. The individual arrested in the US was an Iraqi.

There’s some solid open source stuff that’s pieced together what’s out there about the Iranian criminal proxy attacks in the west, which includes a guy now in U.S. custody claiming to be responsible for Toronto. This is a bit long but a good read. Essentially Iranian agents are hiring shooters for individual jobs- shooting at a building, arson, etc. It’s being described as ‘gig economy’ terrorism. So that would inherently mean people being hired probably already exist in the criminal element.

Talking with a buddy who knows the Toronto policing scene well, apparently that apartment building is pretty notorious and police are regularly there for guns and gangs stuff.

Kid, under the age of 10, was shot there last year in his own apartment lying in his bed.

Like India and USSR 2.0 I guess - outsourcing so they don't have to have as many of their own organic assets out there.

Thanks for more of the REST of the story.

Jess Davis does really good research on the use of criminal proxies by foreign state actors. I’m looking forward to when there’s more out about this overall situation/network (if in fact it is one) and she has something to say on it. We’ll probably learn a fair bit from U.S. court proceedings.

Kinda like the old KGB agents who were cut loose

Warrantless home searches of known criminals and Iranian regime members.

Notorious is an understatement!

Shuddered when I read Trethewey. My memories of it are from the '70s. Doesn't sound like much has improved since then.

I would be utterly astonished if that means someone succesfully fled. Probably it means they have a warrant to arrest that individual and he wasn’t found this morning.

Toronto Police have announced that Nicholas Bennett, 19, is charged with first degree murder. Bennett was shot immediately after by another officer and is in hospital in critical condition.

I’m watching to see if Bennett is also charged in any of the previous shootings, such as the Toronto U.S. consulate or the synagogues. I.e., is Bennett likely a part of the underlying investigation, or just someone who was incidentally at the residence.
