2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Then shut down line 5 from the US carrying oil and the Trans Canada line carrying natural gas.
They woke up pretty quick when the NG line went down a couple years ago.
If you shut down line 5 you shut down Ontario, Michigan & Ohio

If you shut down line 5 you shut down Ontario, Michigan & Ohio
I should have said line 9. If you shut down the product from that they might wake up.

Then they can sort out the issues we have in Canada with Canadian oil and gas getting to markets both domestic and foreign On a larger scale.
As a side bonus the Irving's and trudueas can stop making money off dirty middle east oil.

Take everything Ontario west and send it to the Pacific Rim. Everything from New Brunswick east to Europe. Leave Quebec isolated and out of the fund sharing.

I know, too simplistic.😏

Even with generic cookies, it's pretty impressive how easily people can scrape together your digital footprint and very quickly narrow down a lot of very personal data when they aggregate it. If you look at things advertisers can get like user location data (from phone tracking, apps like Strava etc) you can narrow down things to where people live, where they shop, what they browse, etc pretty easily, even though that's pretty anonymous in theory, and fairly straightforward to cross reference that against databases that can get down to your actual name and address.
I had someone argue strenuously against government intervention due to privacy issues. I drew out of them that they and their kids were all on TikTok…I literally stopped talking to them and walked away…

I think aside from kids accessing porn, real and practical sex ed in high schools and grades 7 and 8 makes more sense, as that's kind of the age when kids start to poke around at that. Before it used to be someone's dad's porn mags or whatever that would get swiped, now some curious kid can stream HD video of all kinds of weird niche fetishes. I know that's a flash point with some parents, and fair enough, but they are pretty naive if they think little Johnny not learning about how to properly put on a condom and STDs in school because you pulled them out of the class and refuse to talk to them about it means they can't easily watch some kind of hard core porn somewhere regardless of what you do, and you can shelter them from that. If you don't educate your kids, they'll educate themselves, and probably won't be the lessons you want them to learn.
Your a bit behind as to how early they are exposed to porn now. I got my first exposure in grade 4 through a unrelated google search in the early 2000s. Its only gotten more available since then.

Now we have kids as young as 6 sexting each other. We are literally at the point where they are sending nudes long before they have held hands. Not to mention the ease of access that exists on Twitter, instagram, facebook, google, reddit, etc.

The key thing with those sites I listed is the fact they are multi-usage sites which have legitimate content for minors as well as plenty of illegitimate content posted by people too.

I don’t know what the solution is other than parents being extremely involved with their phones and ipads. Constant checks, usage of parental controls, regular monitoring, etc. Any government regulations can and will be circumvented, as well as it will likely create plenty of negatives.

@Eaglelord17 is correct its happening very young now. My daughter is 10 and she is the out sider without a a cell phone. And my wife could spend a day telling you stories of what kids in her primary school are getting caught doing and sending to each other.

We need sex ed and net literacy from about kindergarten on now, most of this should be done by parents. Yup that's what we have willingly done to our children for our "freedoms". We have given up common decency and the protection of innocence for the sake of some smut dealers right to produce graphic material and slam it in our faces.

Porn used to be a scummy mag that someone stole from their father or uncle, or a the lingerie section of the Sears catalogue, now its TikTok, IG, Snap Chat, twitter ect ect. If you want the real stuff a simple Google search will scratch your itch.

Parents who aren't paying attention + companies and organizations who exist only for wealth creation while adding nothing to the overall society + the Gov enshrining their rights via freedom of expression = The truest sign of decay for our society.

While I agree that hardcore porn is not a good thing for children, I am reminded that some Europeans I’ve worked with used to joke that North Americans would have no issues letting their kids/teens blow each other up in video games or see graphic violence in media, but clutch their pearls at the sight of a naked breast.

While the availability of porn is easier and free more than ever, parents have given them the tools to access porn and have done so without batting an eye.

Yeah, have a teenager of my own now, and pretty familiar with how young they are getting exposed.

People lost their damn minds in Ontario though when that was proposed for younger ages,so doubt any government programs aimed at tweens won't have the same result.

I remember the early days of the internet though with bulletin boards; it has always been full of porn and violence, just used to take far longer to access it on dialup.

I don't have a good suggestion, and I think that genie is likely out of the bottle anyway, but I don't think intervention by just Canada is going to do anything.

Stay on topic. Neither is good. If you don't have issue with a kid playing Grand Theft Auto I question your ability to parent.

You're not wrong.

Sorry, cant see that on Ship Lan / DWAN.

Its good parenting that will get us out of this. All the legislation and education in the world wont work.

I came to Canada from Grade 5 and entered Grade 6. My class mates were showing me the stashes of their Dad's naturist magazines in their garages and the neighbourhood stash of Playboys in the "club house" on a wooded, undeveloped lot in the middle of our neighbourhood.

Boys and girls were talking about each other's bits and pieces from Grade 4.

Trans-Mountain currently send 40% of it's feedstock to Washington State, that is converted to refined fuels at Cherry Point and then resold to us in USD which means +30% for currency exchange, plus refining and shipping. Right now BC has two refineries, 55,000 b/d in Vancouver and PG is 12,000 B/D

Not nearly the same thing. As what kids are seeing online now.

Not everyone wants to keep funding Ukraine considering our own fiscal problems.

You know what will be more expensive?

Not funding Ukraine.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Bingo GIF by Jason Clarke

Funding Ukraine is by far the most cost effective defence spending NATO members have ever engaged in, in terms of curbing Russian expansionism.

Rolling over and biting the pillow on Russia’s imperialism might be something we can get away with here on our side of the moat, but it’s no principled approach, and it abandons our traditional and situational allies. It would simply cost far more in the long run.
