27 Sep 2026 - British counterterrorism op near RAF Fairford

No surprise they left, then ...

Police make further arrest over RAF Fairford incident

Six men in their 20s, five of whom were arrested on 27 September, had already been arrested and remain on police bail.

American officials have said the US removed its bombers partly because of a reported threat of a possible Iranian drone attack against the base.

The two officials, speaking anonymously to Sky's partner network NBC, could not say whether the threat was imminent.

Donald Trump has said there were "some threats" that led the US to withdraw its aircraft.

I wonder if the mere fact that 5 of the 6 are out walking the streets again has any bearing on this decision. The justice system in GB seems to give a lot of credence to a charged individual's promise to behave. (much like ours)

Criminal charges in Britain are public record, so we can reasonably conclude no charges are laid yet. British law allows for a two week detention without charge in terrorism cases. The fact that we have neither charges nor detention suggests to me that they’re released on conditions pending the laying of charges, and that at present the body of evidence they have and can use if fairly limited and has yet to get them to anything super serious.

Sometimes a release with a court date in the near future buys time to gather enough evidences and build enough of a disclosure package to then lay solid charges and potentially detail in custody or release on more stringent bail.

That said, I’m speculating based on what would fit the pattern. I don’t know what I don’t know.
