Hi everyone,
I‘m a long time ‘lurker‘ and find the list content most rewarding. I was reluctant
to contribute before tell you the reason I changed my mind in a moment. My
contribution for what it‘s worth:
Served 26 years in Brit‘ Army but first:
Enlisted 1942 at age 15 in Home Guard - 3rd Bn KHG. Wpn Tng, Fd Tng, Drill and
Duties, Civil Defence.
Enlisted 9th Kings Liverpool Regiment 1944 Inf. age 17 then transferred to Royal
Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Served in Britain, Egypt, West Africa, Hong Kong, Germany, Holland.
Seconded to Royal West African Frontier Force in Nigeria before independence
Worked with RASC, RE, RS, Duke of Wellington‘s Armoured, sometimes known as "Duke of
Boots"
Retired as CWO, ASM Artificer Sergeant Major Dec. 1969,
Emigrated to Canada Jan. 1970 and am VERY proud Canadian Citizen. Was "too old" at
44? to join P/RES, so work as volunteer with 709 Toronto Communication Regiment.
Paraded for many years with the Regiment in company with other ‘vet‘s‘ in the Flag
Party on CO‘s and other ceremonial occasions. Active member of the Regimental Task
Teams which include Shooting Competition, Drill and Ceremonials, Historical,
Welfare, Fund Raising and Kit Shop. I am task teams Secretary, Historical Team
member, and editor and publisher of the Regimental Magazine "The 709 Communicator".
I know this may not qualify me as a legitimate contributor but I am a Canadian,
passionately interested and involved with military, am I think a young 73 and hoped
that there may be something of interest in my diatribe that could provoke questions
or discussion.
Reasons: Held off because I did not want to "clutter" the list, but changed my mind
because much of what I see is "clutter". Whoa!! that‘s not a criticism but a
statement of fact - I plead with you splendid communicators to NOT include the
messages to which you are replying when you send because it builds up ad nauseum to a
level where it becomes difficult to decipher the new message or, am I doing
something wrong?. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for allowing me the
privilege of contributing.

Welcome to the Gang, the clutter sometimes is necessary in that if you just read an
answer without knowing what reference it was all about, then the reader does have a
problem.
