On December 10, 2025, the Canadian Forces Military Police, specifically the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS), arrested and charged Master Warrant Officer Matthew Robar, a member of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command, with several offences under the National Defence Act (NDA) and other laws.
The arrest and charges stem from a joint operation between the Canadian Forces Military Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Integrated National Security Enforcement Team - Federal Police Central Region.
The accusations are as follows:
- One (1) charge of communicating special operational information under section 17(1) of the Foreign Interference and Protection of Information Act (FIPIA), in accordance with section 130 of the NDA;
- One (1) charge of accepting to secretly communicate information to a foreign entity under section 18(1) of the LIEPI, in accordance with section 130 of the NDA;
- Two (2) charges of contravening the regulations governing storage under section 86 of the Criminal Code (CC) and section 117(h) of the Firearms Act , in accordance with section 130 of the NDA;
- Three (3) charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, in accordance with section 129 of the LDN;
- One (1) charge of feigning illness, in accordance with section 98 of the LDN.
