Evening all,
I'm sure you get a lot of kids smearing foolish questions around these forums all the time and I hate to toss another onto the pile, but I wasn't able to find any old topics that covered my questions, so I appreciate any help.
As short as possible -
I'm 19 years old, living in Hamilton, Ontario, and 100% completely totally for sure going to join up. I'm currently in the process of getting my letters of reference, student transcript and all that jazz together, to join as a Regular Force Member. My reasons for joining I'll keep to myself, not because they're particularly personal but they're not important to my questions.
First of all - is there any reason, beyond an unforeseen medical issue, that could cause the CF to reject my application to be a Regular Force Member? I'm in a reasonable shape and boot camp will obviously be tough but nothing I won't be able to handle, I've never been fired from a job, never been arrested or convicted of a crime, I have the required education, etc, is there any reason to be anxious that I might have my application rejected? I'm just a bit paranoid, I've told all my family and friends that this is what I want to do with my life and now that the moment is drawing ever closer I'm a little nervous that something might go wrong.
Secondly - Assuming I'm accepted, and I'm posted to a base - I'm told that the CF is sort of loosely comparable to a 9-5, in that I work for x amount of hours a day, and then I have the afternoon and night free, as well as weekends. Is this true?
Lastly, and most importantly - would I, as a 19 year old Pvt., have to live on base? If so, would I have to live in barracks or apartments on base? Could I choose to live in my own apartment off base if I wished, or is that only for senior members? What are my housing options as a single 19 year old unmarried male?
Thanks for any help in advance, I apologize if the answers to these questions are easily found, I'll go over all this with the recruiter anyway but having made up my mind to join months ago and to still be waiting for my school transcript in the mail and all that, this whole process is taking a bit longer than I'd like it to and I'm a bit anxious to learn the answers to these questions as soon as I can.
Thanks.
Andrew.
