Evening all,

I'm sure you get a lot of kids smearing foolish questions around these forums all the time and I hate to toss another onto the pile, but I wasn't able to find any old topics that covered my questions, so I appreciate any help.

As short as possible -

I'm 19 years old, living in Hamilton, Ontario, and 100% completely totally for sure going to join up. I'm currently in the process of getting my letters of reference, student transcript and all that jazz together, to join as a Regular Force Member. My reasons for  joining I'll keep to myself, not because they're particularly personal but they're not important to my questions.

First of all - is there any reason, beyond an unforeseen medical issue, that could cause the CF to reject my application to be a Regular Force Member? I'm in a reasonable shape and boot camp will obviously be tough but nothing I won't be able to handle, I've never been fired from a job, never been arrested or convicted of a crime, I have the required education, etc, is there any reason to be anxious that I might have my application rejected? I'm  just a bit paranoid, I've told all my family and friends that this is what I want to do with my life and now that the moment is drawing ever closer I'm a little nervous that something might go wrong.

Secondly - Assuming I'm accepted, and I'm posted to a base - I'm told that the CF is sort of loosely comparable to a 9-5, in that I work for x amount of hours a day, and then I have the afternoon and night free, as well as weekends. Is this true?

Lastly, and most importantly - would I, as a 19 year old Pvt., have to live on base? If so, would I have to live in barracks or apartments on base? Could I choose to live in my own apartment off base if I wished, or is that only for senior members? What are my housing options as a single 19 year old unmarried male?

Thanks for any help in advance, I apologize if the answers to these questions are easily found, I'll go over all this with the recruiter anyway but having made up my mind to join months ago and to still be waiting for my school transcript in the mail and all that, this whole process is taking a bit longer than I'd like it to and I'm a bit anxious to learn the answers to these questions as soon as I can.

Thanks.

Andrew.

Rejected? Maybe not, but there is also always the possibility that the number of applications exceed the number of positions available for the job for which you're applying, and you just might not make the cut.

Off hours on base: For most trades for most people at most time while not on exercise / deployed / sailing, etc. A lot of base jobs still require the occasional long hours, or over night duty shifts. If varies greatly.

And depending upon your trade, you may or may not be required to live in during all or part of your initial trades training. What type of accommodations that would be made available for you during this time varies both from trade to trade and from year to year.

You probably won't get outright rejected if what you say is true, and you don't have any major medical problems. That said, you aren't guaranteed a position, because you'll be competing with several other applicants for the trade you are entering, so it comes down to whether you or somebody else would make the better candidate.

I've only recently been accepted to the Navy as a Naval Communicator, so I can't answer all your questions nor guarantee I'm providing the right answer.

I don't think your application would be denied as long as you meet all the requirements to join the Canadian Forces. I would keep in mind the more technical and advance trades have additional requirements you must meet as well. I would suggest you search the trade online or visit your local CFRC and inquire about your trade of interest to ensure you meet all the requirements, and to discuss the different options available to you.

Are you feeling paranoid because you've counted your chicks before they hatched? I completely understand, you want to have a career with the Canadian Forces, but don't leave this as your only option.

Regards,
