Hi guys,
First time poster here, but I've been considering a career in the Forces for several years now. I've gone through the "stickies" on the board, and couldn't really find specific answers to some of my semi-embarrassing questions. I was hoping you guys could help answer them.
Before I start asking the questions, just want to give some background info. I'm 21, went to uni at 18, finished my undergrad degree in Criminology/Law this summer and have been working at a bank desk job since. Not my style, I really want to be out moving rather than sitting at a desk gaining weight. My goal would be to join the Forces, hopefully as a MP officer.
First thing is medical-related. I've been on Cipralex (anti-depressant) for about a year now for anxiety. I used to have anxiety attacks growing up but they've completely disappeared for the last 6 months or so. I'm still on the meds though, so I'm wondering would this cause a "medical restriction" on my app? Should I get off the meds before applying (would this be a concern at all)?
Second, I'm not the biggest guy. 5'9, 160lbs. Definitely not the most intimidating person ever. Is this taken in to consideration during the app process? I'm a very driven-person, I set goals for myself and I don't quit till I achieve them. I'm not worried about flunking out, more about just being accepted in (not trying to be cocky, I have no doubts whatsoever that it won't be a cake walk).
One final question, just wondering how many people who get in to the Forces have never handled a gun before joining? Am I going to be ridiculed for knowing next to nothing about guns? I'm sure it's taught how to handle one in the basic training, but is it a terribly uncommon thing for someone to have no prior knowledge going in to it?
Thanks for reading the long post, and providing any help, greatly appreciated!
