I'm looking for any information on purchasing an ACR MS-2000(M) military strobe.

There is an IR restriction on purchasing outside the US, where they are easily obtained.

Thus, does anyone know where I could purchase one in Canada?

Tracker 23A -I had a few questions regarding this. Where does it say that there is IR restriction on purchasing outside the US? Is it a Cdn or US Customs thing? Gov or Military Regulation? Is this a new rule or regulation? I bought one about a year and a half ago, brand new in the box on Ebay for 40 $. It was shipped from the US to Canada and I did not have any problems. I looked on Ebay for current ones and the seller's do not say anything about IR Restrictions. Where did you hear this?

Aside from this. I too have not found anywhere that sells these in Canada. You should try Daves army surplus, in New Westminster, they sell almost anything you can imagine. If they don't have it, they usually can get it.

cheers

I went onto a site in the US, from supply captain:

http://www.supplycaptain.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=8

and says the restrictions on the page.  I also ordered one, not knowing from military.com:

http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/military/level4.tam?xax=18546&M5COPY%2Ectx=25956&M5%2Ectx=3088&M2%5FDESC%2Ectx=Flashlights%2C%20Headlamps%2C%20Lights&level3%2Ectx=results%2Etam

and was advised, after becoming aware of this that, they would have to "check with the purchasing department. Certain items can only be ordered by the government."

Thus, I have no idea.  I tried ebay, but couldn't find one.

IR is a USEA/FAR restricted technology, especially software relating to IR devices. Canada is generally a safe harbor for shipping this stuff, but you can't take it out of Canada without express written permission. Since the US vendors are in no position to actually control what you do with the technology, they face significant legal risk should they export the technology with assurance as to the legally conforming use of it.

Which they should be, however I have identified myself as a regular force soldier who would be using the device in a military context.  I also supplied them with a CF Post office address.

I have a seller who is willing to sell me one, but I have told military.com that if they can, I will buy from them.

Now I wait............

Tracker 23A -Thanks for the info. This was the first i heard about the IR restrictions. Good luck on your purchase. If you find yourself unable to get one, in a pinch, i might be willing to part with mine. I figure, someone in the Reg force probably has a better use for it than me (and use it more). Let me know how things go and we can discuss it if you are unable to get it. I know you already have things in the works (always good to have a back up plan!), but just in case you could also try:

Try emailing the seller of this auction. He says to email him before bidding to see if they can send it to the bidders' country due to the restrictions. It is worth a try.

Also try Daves Army Surplus (http://www.davesarmysurplus.com/). If they don't have it, they could probably get it. [email protected].

Good luck
