advice for a friend

ok guys/gals, i have a very serious question, the story is like this,
i met this girl while i was working in a restuarant, we became good friends and still are, yesterday we went to starbucks for coffe, you know just girl talk, anyways, i told her all what is happenning in my life at the moment and told her that i am joining the CF, she was shocked but impressed, then she asked me all about it, i told her all about the application process etc.etc.etc, and how great of an oppurtunity this career was, so she got all excited about CF and wants to join as well, now the shocking part, i never knew untill yesterday, she told me that she used to be an escort and worked for 2yrs,she never mentioned where, so she asked me if she would still be able to get into CF , she said that she has no criminal record, well i could'nt give her an answer(thinking i'll ask u guys/gals) well now that i have asked, can anyone advise me so i can advise her? appriciate all answers thanks

Just a civilian with an opinion, but:

I would suggest that without a record, then she has officially done nothing wrong.  Escort services charge for time, not anything else, which is why they are legal companies.  The fact that they are commonly understood to provide other services does not detract from their legitimacy, which is why they continue to exist.  Further, not all escorts, or escort companies, necessarily provide those services which are often attributed to them.

So, she should be able to attempt to join the CF without problems as she has done nothing wrong, offiically.

However, I would question whether or not she has the type of personality that would suit the forces in the long run, particularly if she has engaged in those activities which ordinarily create a criminal history if discovered.  There are many horror stories of troopers who cover their ineptitude by becoming the battalion bicycle.  This reflects badly on them, on the battalion, and the CF as a whole.  If there is any possibility that she does not really, really want to become a soldier, tell her to stay away.  It is going to be a stressful, testosterone-charged environment, and if she is unable to handle that without resorting to "nature's credit card" to pay her way through, then the CF is the worst thing that could happen to her.  People change;  it's possible.  But change is damn difficult, and if she hasn't got it in her to stay the course, then tell her to stay away.  Becoming a soldier by achieving, working hard, and meeting the standards will be a huge confidence boost and will make her a better person.  Going thru the CF any other way will destroy her.

Note that this is predicated upon the assumption that she did in fact work for those kinds of companies, providing *those* kinds of services.  If she never did, then she should have a better view on life and a better chance to get through than some, because she will have kept her integrity.

Advice from a civvy, which means you can discount it if you wish...but I think it's a clear representation of the situation.

ok that was a good advise now last nite i called her and wanted to know exactly what she did, well she said that she was a VIPescort(dont understand what that means) and that she only went to entertain them not in "THOSE" kinds, only to accompany them in parties, proms weddings etc, meaning, she dressed up to look pretty and mingel with the crowd pretending she was the VIP's girlfriend, wife, etc.
so if this is what she did then its OK for her to apply?

Two girls I know personally, and probably a few more, were strippers (excuse me "exotic dancers") in their former lives.  This was knowledge they kept mostly to themselves for obvious reasons.  One was an awesome troop in her chosen field (no, she was not an Engineer).  The other was a useless sack.  Point is, people with questionable choices of civilian careers get in all the time, but it's between you, your recruiter, and whichever deity you choose to share such things with.

Depends on what kind of "Escort" she was.  And, unless she was an extremely Lucky one, she may have a charge on record.  Tell your "Friend" that she will have to be upfront with the recruiter regarding any that she may have.

That she's not a liar.

Potential recruits need to be 100% up front with recruiters. From recruitment, to operations - the miltary that need people who are trustworthy and honourable.

As I said, unless she was very good at not getting caught, and I admit that I am assuming here, then she will have to explain this to the recruiter.

And if the Escort part was legal, why would she be ashamed of hiding it?

Anway, one more comment, then this is locked.

If she is asked if she has had any criminal charges/convictions, she needs to answer honestly. If she's asked about her past/present employment, she needs to answer honestly. If she's asked about past or current drug use, she needs to answer honestly.

In the same way that is expected of any new applicant.
