I'm not an expert in this sort of industry, but doesn't it take huge financial backing to be able to develop a world-class armoured vehicle?

Over the last 10 yrs of looking at Jane's Defence etc, it looks like many of the major manufacturers have been forming joint ventures or even mergers due to the immense financial burdens involved. If somebody popped up out of nowhere, and said that in a realistic timeframe, and with no prior experience, they could develop a vehicle far superior to the LAVs, etc, I'd be very suspicious of their potential for success....

On first glance, I too am somewhat skeptical of a company suddenly jumping up and stating that they are going to start manufacturing a range of armoured vehicles, especially when they assign names to the vehicles before it appears project definition even begins (more so when the names appear chosen to appeal to Canadian military heartstrings and may not have any effect on the more potential overseas customer).  But due to the world situation, there is an increased market for these products, so it is not surprising that someone wants a piece of the pie.

AeroArmor, or more appropriately AeroFoam Metals seem to be making this step based solely on its 'metal process' and not on any experience it has in combat vehicle design.  They do, however, have some experience with their product in armoured vehicles.

I expect they'll face stiff competition from conmpanies like Stavatti Heavy Industries

;D

Hmmm...wonder how they can trademark a Regiment's name or nickname....
