Sorry if this topic is not at the right place. So feel free to move it.  ;D

I was reading news like I always do each morning and I came across something that..well disturbed me. It's a readers (soldier) opinion about a TV program that was on the air the night of the 31. For years we had a program recalling all the stories of the year, with most of the time real time sketch's and was always funny. The program was cancelled, but this years was revived by a group of humorist, and was all "pre-filmed" and we had the promise that it would be as funny. I stop watching it after 30 min cause I didn't like the way they did it. I am glad now that I changed the channel. One of their "sketch" was about a military wife from Valcartier receiving a package from Afghanistan... in the package she had the remains of her husband and" peppermint"  ???. Like I said I didn't see it. But the point is whatever the situation was in that sketch it should have never been approved by the leaders of....SRC..yep the french side of CBC, again...  :threat: The problem is, the show was watch by over 2.6 millions of viewer in Quebec. A lot of them were soldiers, including me, leaving next year. Other then writing a complaint to the SRC what else could we do?
Sorry for the grammar

the link is in french...sorry

okay found the clip on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAwTX_PqkU8

start at 2:40 min

Again sorry it's in french

  Ridiculous.

I heard about this from my gf's parents, as they were somewhat annoyed at having wasted time from their lives they'll never get back by watching this.

Was this the annual Bye- Bye? I'd heard about it. I know in years past they had some really good ones.

edit: Allright, just read the the article and saw the clip...Disgusting

We didn't have Bye Bye for something like 8 years...
It was usually a broad mix of québécois actors, sometime, some singers
and guest appearance (politicians immitating themselves, etc)

They resurected it this year with one humoristic group (RBO, Rock & Belles Oreilles),
which has also mostly been dead for a few years (they mostly disband, members pursuing
personal carreers) doing everything.

I'm absolutely appalled at the idea of a sketch making fun of people receiving a loved one's remains in the mail! I watched the Year of the Farce and sent a email of complaint about the skit which made fun of friendly fire etc.
I think as many people as possible should take the time to send emails to both these channels complaining of our distaste for this kind of humour.
There is a popular myth with the media that all they have to do is put a disclaimer at the first of the show and then they can do anything they like.
There is a sense out there that everything can be mocked or ridiculed and everything is fair game. It takes people standing up and voicing their opposition to it to get it stopped.
We don't tolerated racism and hatred on TV why do we tolerate this? ???

I'm not only disgusted with the part of the skit about the wife receiving the ashes, but a large part of it is an officer telling the men that it's ok if you accidently kill Afghani civillians, we'll just give their families peppermints as compensation.

I'm glad we didn't watch it on New Years. I'm in Montreal visiting my family, and broke the news about me heading over. I would have hated to be around for that skit.

I caught part of Air Farce on New Years Eve, their bias agaisnt the CPC was painfully evident, I guess they miss their old masters.

They took a few cracks at the Liberals but nothing like the crap they were hurling at the Cons. I don't mind that so much as I don't think that many people are watching them anymore and I don't think they influence voters that much....feeds the bias of those already committed more like.
The part that really offended me was the skit about the Tim Horton's in Kandahar. The cracks about friendly fire, us doing the American's dirty work for them and bringing our troops home was straight from the NDP policy convention floor. I don't see them volunteering to go over in potential harms way to entertain our troops. Of course with crap like that they'd be booed off the stage.
Maybe it's time this show went the way of the DODO.  >:(

It's removed for Copyright infringment on You Tube.        ::)

Way to go CBC Quebec!

Regards

Not that I wanted to keep this post alive, but today I came on another clip. It's a two part clip, one by the Royal Canadian Air Farce and the other one was made by the same guys that made the clip above. I don't really care about people making fun on politic and politician whatever the political party. When it's funny, well it's funny. But again in the french clip at 1:50 min they have a total disrespect for fellow soldiers. I don't mind people being against sending troops in Afghanistan, I don't mind people saying " I support our troops, bring them home!" everybody is allowed free speech....but that's going to far..is it just me or clip like that should not go on air ?? ...specially from SRC..again...

comments please

Pert much everyone in Quebec who say all or parts of Bye bye on NYE were equal with their dislike of the RBO presentation.  They used to be funny.... well I remember them as being funny, sometimes, way back when....... oh well... thank god they pulled the clip from youtube

How don't know how anyone can think that shit like that is funny...sick

What can I say other than totally disgusting.Guy A. Lepage is well known around here for his stupid acts but this one deserves the big prize. The SRC's  management should be told in no uncertain words that picturing body bags IS NOT a darn joke.I most certainly voice that in a message to the honcho there.Freedom of speech is not a blank cheque to create that sort of trash.

Maybe it's time to unleash the blogsphere on this. They did humiliate the CBC over creative editing of one of Harper's press conferences...maybe it's time they paid for supporting inappropriate humour.

One thing I dont understand is it was Martin's gov-t who committed to Afghanistan. Why are they ripping on Harper for that?

WRT the Liberals.... they aren't in power and are now free, sort of, to fire off comments at the party in power.... the same way the Conservatives used to lash out at the Liberals..............

Are you really all that surprised?

At this point I am really close to just giving up trying to understand how socialist (aka liberals) think.

SR...
It the US, many people have given up trying to figure out how fundamentalist conservatives (aka conservatives) think.......

There should be a happy medium

Let me know if you find it ;)
