The Armed Forces of the Philippines is currently fighting a communist insurgency which has been bedevilling the country for 50 years. Aside from them, AFP is fighting terrorism waged by Abu-Sayaff in Mindanao.

When Cuba fell into communist hands under the leadership of Fidel Castro, exiles chose Florida as their home. The second wave of exiles came a few years after the fall. Ten years later, Fidel granted exodus to  another wave of migrants whom US suspected as criminals, spies and trouble makers.

What then will happen if Philippines fall into communist takeover. How would this affect GTA where 200 thousand Filipino-Canadians reside? Shall we have serious security concerns.

The communist insurgency on Luzon and elsewhere in the north has really not advanced anywhere in the past couple of decades and appears to enjoy little or no public support amongst the rural population. As such they have been reduced to low level banditry just to support themselves.

Abu Sayeff and MILF may control large rural areas of Mindanao but that’s about it. Incursions into Palawan, Negros and Cebu have been insignificant. At present they seem to be contained by the local military forces deployed against them and concentrating on fighting the local pirates and narco types for drugs, kidnapping and smuggling among the ssouther islands and Indonesia to keep themselves financially viable. I guess Bin Ladens Filipino wife hasn’t sent any Balikbayan boxes home lately.

A more credible (and that’s using the term loosely) is another coup in and around Metro Manila by bored senior officers.

However my broker just called and my shares of Al-Can just went up so thank you.

An exact description of how the mind of coup plotters in  Manila works, Sir Dan..Watch the movie DIE HARD. Not only do they let achievements get into their heads. They also throw their weight around. Filipino Coup plotters in Canada terrorize the Filipino community. Rest assured their leader would never step down from power as he organizes his military junta.

Why?
For the absolutely brilliant acting...or to try and guess the relevance of German hostage takers/robbers in a Japanese corporate HQ to a thread about the effect an unproductive communist insurgency in Philippines may have on Toronto?

This should be entertaining...  :pop:

First don't call me Sir. I work for a living and my parents knew each other. 8)

Second I agree with the biker dude, the relevance of the Die Hard movie is?????

The last time I was in Manila it was explained to me that reason all the coups took place in Makati is to allow the Generals and Colonels a chance to do some decent shopping and use the spa facilities of the 5 Star hotels they grab as their HQs.

As you may have guessed I have more than a passing knowledge of the Filippino Community here and in the PI including  a good grasp of the military situation there. I'm also the site's resident SME on Cuba including all the hows and whys of the Castro brothers. In both cases my experience is first hand, been there done that and literally have a drawer full ofT-shirts.

Your experience is?

Anyway checked again and that Al Can stock is still rising with every post. Keep it up and I can start on that beach house overlooking the South China Sea sooner than I thought. 8)

The previous poster mentioned the possible scenario vis-a-vis "unproductive communist insurgency". He thinks of a coup most likely. So I told him how the mind of a coup plotter works thereby reinforcing his theory of a possibility.

Well anyway, the moral of my story is: Immigration should be careful. A lot of CPP-NPA amazons (lady terrorists) get their immigration papers either through deceit or fixed marriages. If you are to decide who goes here in Canada, rest assured, relatives of Armed Forces of the Philippines to the highest degree of consanguinity and affinity. Ideologically pure pro-capitalist, pro-democrat.

Who, in Die Hard, was plotting a coup?

The villains were a bunch of disgruntled officers who resemble coup plotters demanding the US government to release a political prisoner. It was a rebellion against duly constituted authorities just like Filipino coup plotters. There was one thing common between them. They're army officers.

WTF?!

Uh, you don't actually know what a coup d'état is, do you?

And sadly I don't get to decide who lives here in Canada; if I did, rest assured I'd include a clause prohibiting those who obviously ate paint chips as a kid!

...even if your mom did call them "wall candy."
;)

Wait, he's talking about that all time classic Die Hard movie at the Washington Airport,......geez  mediocre1, I profusely apologize for it's pretty obvious the above 2 posters have no real clue to the level in which your genius abounds.....

Please delve a little deeper so I can try and keep up.
Thanks.

Let me rephrase my statement. If  I were to decide who gets his/her immigration papers I'd give first priority (I said first priority, not ban others of different ideological orientation)to relatives of Singhalese in the Sril Lankan Army to counter Tamil terrorism. I'd also give priority to relatives of Indian Army some of whom compose our law enforcement agencies. "For  richer or poorer, in sickness or health, for better or  for worst, we die for democratic capitalism (with safety net)!-Filipino relatives of  AFP.

All right you guys......stop passing out the free tinfoil......

I know I should just walk away from this train-wreck. I do!
        ~sigh~

OK, let me get this straight....

- You're concerned about potential security concerns in Toronto, due to immigration arising from a hypothetical communist insurgent victory in the Philippines.

- To counter this "threat," we should prioritize immigration to favour (in descending order):
    - Sri Lankan Singhalese military,
    - Indian military,
    - relatives of Philippine military members.

- To better understand what we're dealing with here, we should go out and rent Die Hard.

I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue

On the contrary Journeyman, it would seem that your glue-sniffing has given you profound insight into this gentleman's thesis and has enabled to you to summarize it so it is comprehensible to all of us. Now that doesn't mean the author of the thesis himself hasn't been sniffing glue... or worse.

Now, where do the Rote Faktion guys come in, with their wacky accent and arsenal? As well, I fear Bruce might be getting a bit old to play saviour of the day....any volunteer?

The Cuban Five were a bunch of spies convicted in US last year. They were part of the wave of immigrants who were allowed to migrate in Florid at the behest of Castro. Thus, the suspicions of US intelligence agencies were  confirmed that the latest wave of immigrants were made  up of spies and saboteurs.

If the  CPP-NPA were in power, in what category shall we place relatives of AFP? Refugees. Hence, as potential refugees they should be given some priority because of the threat of communist takeover. Take note that last year a daughter of an AFP officer was raped by 4 NPAs who took turns sexually assaulting the poor girl. The victim and her relatives are now in US under refugee status. I am giving you an inklilng of what will happen to relatives of AFP. They would be raped and tortured.

Journeyman's explanation works for me.  Now, I'm going to go and watch Die Hard.  ;D

Oh, and I have a great solution.  Let's stop everyone from immigrating.

Is it just me or does anyone else see a sudden spike in this.

http://www.alcan.com/web/publishing.nsf/Content/Investors+-+Stock+Information

I’ve been trying to get my broker on the line all morning to shift my Nortel and GMC stock over.

Ok first you’re quoting the crappiest of the Die Hard series, ok second crappiest but who really counts Die Hard 4?

Gee Castro snuck in 5 second rate DGI operatives into the USA amongst the thousands of Balseros and you’re calling for us to introduce the Canadian version of the Gurkas, Guides and Frontier Rifles (ok actually that's not a bad idea) to combat this.

BTW Skippy as the Philippines have mandatory military service technically every immigrant is “related” to someone who served in their armed forces. All my inlaws seem to qualify for Ordinary Membership in my Legion branch.

JM pass the Elmers would ya.

They can all join the Communist party of Canada, and be laughed at because there system of government can never work.

Having nothing better to do last night and an over-whelming desire to understand this thread I watched DIE HARD last night and suddenly all this makes perfect sence to me!

If I (for whatever strange reason) wanted to take over Toronto, the most logical way to do it would be to instigate and lead a communist insurgency in the Philippines at least 5 decades before I plan on taking over.

Thanks to Bruce Willis and mediocre1 for helping me figure out this diabolical plot!

(In the end it's 2 hours of my life I'm never getting back, but gotta run as now I'm trying to figure out how to end world hunger by watching the entire first season of Beverly Hills 90210)
