Europe divided Africa at the Berlin Conference of 1884-85. Europe left Africa in the 1960s. During that time, the lifespan of a single person, a lot of time was spent suppressing slavery, especially in the area of Nigeria in the west and the Swahili coast in the east. Run by Arabs for over 1000 years, centred on Zanzibar and extending from Madagascar to Mombasa in Kenya. The effort continued even after the colonials left, well into the 1980s.
But, apparently it wasn't enough to change centuries of culture.

One of the more interesting developments is a South Korean effort.
Some of you may remember a Reverend Sun Myung Moon, famous for his mass weddings. He matched man and woman and married them in batches. He has died but it sounds as if he has an acolyte who has taken the show on the road to Africa with a bit of a twist. Instead of arranging weddings he is organizing bible classes for 60,000 at a crack.
