I was just wondering if someone has any idea what the typical age range is in a new group of recruits at basic training. I figure out of a group of 35 you would have about 5 17-18 year olds, 5 35-45 year olds and the rest in their 20‘s.
Does anyone know if this is about right?

In my platoon in St-Jean, the age ranged from 17 yrs old to 47 yrs old. The platoon started with 58 members and graduated 45. I‘d estimate an average age of 26. A majority were between the ages of 23 and 30.

During the course, we had one guy volunteer for release (VR), two (from an earlier platoon) only needed to recomplete the fitness test, the rest acquired injuries through training and they couldn‘t complete the course.

Another platoon going through at the same time lost six from my recollection. Three for medical reasons and three from volunteer releases. They had alot of recruits in the 23-30 year old range too, not too many 17-20s, and a couple in the
mid-late 30s.

The recruits affected by injuries or related medical issues and couldn‘t complete the course were "recoursed" and placed into a platoon starting a few weeks later.

I‘m not familiar with all the abbreviations. What does PPL mean?

PPL = people?

On my basic, we had the most people leave in the first couple weeks, when they either decided they liked it or not.

My platoon was special, nearly everyone was 17-20, and the oldest guy was 24. But other platoons had a coupla guys in their 30s and 40s, so it varies. But age doesn‘t matter, as no one even notices a difference after a while, since everyone is treated the same, whether 17 or 37.

My Bmq had about 5 over 30...
15 under 20 the rest right in the middle...

we lost 2 to broken legs from hockey consecutive weekends. And 4 to VR
