Al Qaeda in search of new alliances- conflict- BBC news

The article refers to how Al Qaeda is seeking to establish themselves in Syria. Does anyone think it could happen since the government is Alawite- who are from the shiite sect of Islam, and the protesters seem to be Sunni as well as other religions.

Islamist's have a habit of treading over the revolutions of others and calling it their own. S the intent is not surprising. Plus AQ kind of fell behind on the Arab Spring curve, and likely trying to make themselves relevent.
