I have got to hand it to A'Q terrorists, they shoot for the moon.

Zarqawi hit out at the Sunni Muslim Iraqi Islamic Party for having taken part in the December 15 general elections, and called on it to renounce such actions.

"We call on the Islamic Party to abandon the road to perdition on which it has embarked and which threatened to cause the loss of the Sunni community," Zarqawi said, adding that the party "should have called the people to jihad (holy war)."

The Iraqi Al-Qaeda leader then laid down two conditions for giving up the jihad.

"First, chase out the invaders from our territory in Palestine, in Iraq and everywhere in Islamic land.

"Second, instal sharia (Islamic law) on the entire Earth and spread Islamic justice there (...). The attacks will not cease until after the victory of Islam and the setting up of sharia," he swore.

Zarqawi concluded: "O young Muslims everywhere in the world, and in particular in the neighbouring countries (of Iraq) and in Yemen, I recommend jihad to you (...). O nation of Islam, America is today drawing its last breath."

Sort of like "either you are with us or against us."  ;)

He's an optimist, thaaaat's great.

Although if you replace some of the words you pretty much get what any politician would say on any topic in any political system.
There must be a template they give these guys.

Usually, politicians don't aim at the destruction of everything and everyone that stands in their way. But that's just my view.

Does that justify an alert status colour change  ;)

I dunno, but do you think it justifies stepped-up actions against jihadists? :D

You must know some awfully nice politicians then because the ones I'm looking at sound an awful lot like that.

I said replace some words and it sounds like what anyone else is saying, it's like there's a template for this that all the world leaders secretly pass around to save time on impromptu calls to arms.
It wasn't a dig at the West, relax.

"We call on the Terrorists/imperialists/ to abandon the road to perdition on which it has embarked and which threatened to cause the loss of democracy/freedom/socialism," ________ said, adding that the party "should have called the people to arms/peace/show solidarity/work"

The Glorious Leader/President/Prime Minister/General/man in the video then laid down two conditions for giving up the struggle/jihad/war.

"First, chase out the invaders/terrorists/imperialists/capitalists/communists from our territory in the fatherland/homeland/freeworld and everywhere in Islamic land/freedom loving world/socialist world.

"Second, instal sharia (Islamic law)/capitalism/democracy/communism/anarchism on the entire Earth and spread Islamic justice/democracy/freedom/communism there (...). The attacks/war/insurgency/revolution will not cease until after the victory of Islam/Communism/Capitalism/The Revolution/Democracy and the setting up of sharia/constitution/workers paradise," he swore.

I wasn't seriously comparing Al-Zaqawri to anyone, just you see people huff and puff alot and it all comes out sounding strangely familiar sometimes.

You know, I was about to say the same thing before I scrolled down. Replace "Sharia" with "Freedom and democracy", make a few other minor changes, and you have a Bush speech.

Relax.  Religious or idelogical extremists are self limiting.  If any of them enjoy any success they inevitably scism, and in the resultant fratricidal bloodbath makes them both more visable and more vulnerable to counterinsurgency actions.  Al Quaida and other low level orginizations are effective at phase one guerilla levels because they lack any coherent orginization for us to penetrate.  They can succeed at killing people, but are unable to overthrow or signifigantly destabalize a resolved public.  I sometimes wonder if a Canadian 9-11 would shatter us, or simply rouse the amoebic Canadian conciousness from its long slumber.
A man determined to die for his cause is only guarenteed to succeed at THAT objective.

Like those bastions of compromise and negotiation, like Churchill and Hitler?

(Both politicians who aimed for the destruction of everything in their way)
