On Tuesday February 20th, four masked males brandishing an assortment of improvised weapons burst into a northeast area pub through the side entrance. In attracting staff and patrons attention to the fact that they would like the bar's proceeds, the first broke his club in half. They then demanded the contents of the bar safe. The owner replied "there is no safe, with the smoking ban now in place there is not enough clientele". Looking at the betting machines the robbers demanded the bar staff open them up and remove the cash inside. The bartender replied "all winnings are paid to the winner by money order/cheque through the mail, so the government can ensure tax's are paid". Getting exasperated the robbers looked around and spotted the till. Demanding the till's contents the bar tender surrendered it to the robbers. Having finally achieved their objective the four turn to flee out the side entrance. One of them got confused missed the doorway and ran down the hall way to a dead end, his three compatriots fleeing out the door. Returning back down the hallway the robber was "accidentally" struck by a mop as the bartender was cleaning up the mess from the snow and ice dragged in on the robber's boots. In trying to assist the poor misguided youth to his feet, the bartender broke his hand mistaking the youths face for his shoulder. We can all understand this confusion mistaking a masked dark covered face for a hoodie covered shoulder in dim light. Several patrons seeing that the bartender was unable to assist the youth further came over to assist the poor misguided youth. One having forgot his glasses again misidentified the youth's face and shoulder, the others in their zest to assist accidentally caused more physical pain in their attempt to help the youth to his feet. Police and an ambulance arrived on scene, a round was had on the house.
